OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he accepts Han Dong’s decision to leave the Liberal caucus after an allegation he spoke to a Chinese diplomat about delaying the release of two Canadians.
Trudeau sidestepped a question Friday about whether he believes the allegation, saying only that Canadians should watch Dong’s “strong” speech for themselves.

VANDERHOOF, B.C. — A former BC Liberal cabinet minister turfed from the party caucus last year for his climate change views says he’s running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of British Columbia.
John Rustad, who has been sitting as an Independent in B.C.’s legislature, says he wants to build a grassroots coalition of supporters under the Conservative banner to offer an alternative to the current New Democrat government and Opposition Liberals.

MIAMI — Canada’s Denis Shapovalov has advanced to the third round of the Miami Open tennis tournament with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Argentina’s Guido Pella.

New Brunswick police investigating after cyclist hits wire at head level across trail
SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Police in Saint John, N.B., say they are investigating after a cyclist rode into a wire strung between trees in Rockwood Park.
They say a cyclist hit the thin wire at head level while riding downhill on a trail mid-morning Saturday.
Police say the cyclist’s helmet and face guard kept the person safe and uninjured.
On its social media page, the Saint John Cycling group warned people about the “booby trap,” describing it as a wire or rope tied to trees.
