EDMONTON — Alberta’s Court of Appeal heard arguments Thursday that a former Ontario truck driver should be tried for a third time in the 2011 death of an Indigenous woman.
Bradley Barton, 55, was sentenced to 12 1/2 years for manslaughter in the death of Cindy Gladue, a Métis and Cree woman who bled to death in a bathtub at the Yellowhead Inn in Edmonton.

EDMONTON — Police in Edmonton say a 16-year-old boy who shot and killed two officers a week ago had been apprehended in November under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.
Police also say the same gun was used in a shooting days before the killings at a nearby restaurant that left a man injured.

CHILLIWACK — An investigation that has been ongoing for nearly two years has yielded the recovery of a large amount of stolen cash and a number of items of high value. However a suspect in the thefts continues to roam free.

RIMOUSKI, Que. — The victim in the sexual assault case involving ex-Parti Québécois member Harold LeBel has asked a judge to lift a publication ban on her identity.
