Dozens of people were left without a home after an apartment building went up in flames in downtown Chilliwack on the evening of Aug. 5.The blaze happened around 7:45 p.m. in a four-storey building on Spadina Avenue at Mary Street.
Fire and heavy smoke were coming from the building and hundreds of people were outside on the street watching as flames crept up the sides.

A Danish pilot living in Terrace has been killed in a helicopter crash while fighting a wildfire west of Athens, Greece on Aug. 2, 2026.
Two helicopters, one piloted by Rune Kyndal, 46, came into contact with each other in midair, European news agencies report.
