An airplane was removed from a gravel bar on the Fraser River via helicopter in Chilliwack on Wednesday.
The plane had landed upside-down on Tuesday (Sept. 15) near Old Orchard Road. According to RCMP, no one was injured.

Nearly six years after an alleged arson at Burnaby Hospital, a 29-year-old Alberta man has been charged.
The B.C. Prosecution Service approved a charge of arson, disregard for human life, against Yu Yun Wang on Sept. 8, according to a news release from Burnaby RCMP Thursday (Sept. 17).
Wang is currently in custody in Alberta on unrelated charges, police said.

Abbotsford and Mission downgraded water restrictions from stage two to stage one last week.
The move back to stage one, which allows lawn watering once per week, was effective Sept. 10.
Stage one restrictions first went into effect on May 1 and were upgraded to stage two on July 31.
Under stage one, even addresses can water lawns on Saturdays and odd addresses water on Sundays. Manual watering is permitted between 6 and 9 a.m. and automatic watering between 5 and 7 a.m.

An earthquake rumbled the Kootenays early Thursday morning, Sept. 17.
Earthquakes Canada reported the 3.7 magnitude quake struck about 5:30 am PT on the east shore of Kootenay Lake near Grey Creek (at 49.64°N, 116.78°W), at a depth of about four kilometres.

A 42-year-old woman is dead following a motor vehicle incident in the parking lot of the Co-op gas bar on Victoria Crescent in downtown Nanaimo on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 16.
An earlier report from the Nanaimo RCMP identified the victim as a man.
Later in the day, the police said that at approximately 6:46 a.m., Nanaimo RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a semi-truck in the parking lot of the Co-op Gas Bar, located at 60 Victoria Crescent.

A man is dead following a motor vehicle incident in the parking lot of the Co-op gas bar on Victoria Crescent in downtown Nanaimo on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Vernon’s Jim Cotter returned to competitive men’s team curling with a second-place finish at the 20-team Saville Shootout in Edmonton.
Cotter, 51, fell 5-4 in the final Monday, Sept. 14, to Benny Kapp of Fuessen, Germany. The Cotter rink collected $4,000 for second place. Kapp pocketed $6,000.

Fire crews, police and B.C. Ambulance Service were on the scene at a hospital on Vancouver Island for a rescue incident.
First responders were called out to the cancer centre construction site at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, just before noon on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Abbotsford Judo Club founder Tokue Suda passes away at age 76

An Abbotsford sports legend has passed away and the judo community he helped create is fondly remembering the massive impact he had.
Tokue Suda established the Abbotsford Judo Club in 1981 and his efforts grew it into the largest dojo in British Columbia.
He died on Sept. 14 at the age of 76 in Delta.

Two men are now facing break-and-enter charges after thousands of dollars in stolen goods were recovered at an Abbotsford home.
The Abbotsford Police Department said this recent investigation stems from an Aug. 27 incident, where officers were called to a reported break-and-enter at a business in the 1800 block of Forge Place.

Comox Valley RCMP are currently investigating an aggravated assault at Courtenay’s North Island College campus.
Police responded to multiple calls at 12:53 a.m. reporting an assault with an edged weapon at one of the campus’s residence buildings. Police located two victims with injuries quickly after arriving at the scene. Officers identified and arrested the suspect, a 21-year-old man from Burnaby. The man is currently in custody pending a court appearance.
