Damn, sometimes I just don’t get what the crowd is thinking.
Sometimes I'm the problem—I'll admit it—but other times, it's clearly the crowd.
Since Brendan Gallagher left, the Canadiens have been left with a captain (Nick Suzuki) and just one assistant captain (Mike Matheson). So there's an “A” to hand out to someone before the season starts.
Several names have been thrown into the mix: Josh Anderson, Alex Newhook, Cole Caufield, Lane Hutson, Juraj Slafkovsky, Kaide

Cole Caufield Just Missed the Top 30 NHL Players
via dose.ca
Last Sunday, the NHL website began its countdown of the top 50 NHL players.
From No. 50 to No. 41, there were no Canadiens players in sight. Today, the league continued the countdown, ranking players from No. 40 to No. 31.
Cole Caufield is ranked 31st. He narrowly missed the top 30, despite having been voted among the top 10 wingers just a few weeks ago.If you score goals like Cole Caufield, you make the NHL Network's Top 50 Players Right Now list! The @CanadiensMTL star comes in at #⃣3T -
People are starting to get jealous of the CH’s pay structure
via dose.ca
Tonight, the league continued to reveal its top 50 NHL players.
Leo Carlsson came in… at No. 38. The Ducks paid $18 million per season (thanks to the Flyers) for the 38th-best player in the NHL.

Blue Jays: A Bad Day in the Standings
via dose.ca
The Blue Jays faced the Kansas City Royals this afternoon. The team had already won the series, but every game counts at this point.
Except it didn't go well.
Spencer Arrighetti, who hasn't been doing much of anything since the trade that brought him to Toronto, gave up no fewer than six earned runs, including three to the first three batters of the game.
I don't need to tell you that in a (heavy) 6-1 loss, that made all the difference in the worst possible way.
Nothing was working, really. Jesu -
“I think Arber Xhekaj could be a good third-pair defenseman, but not with the CH.”
via dose.ca
When will Arber Xhekaj's contract be extended?
That's one of the most frequently asked questions in Montreal, along with the situation involving Zachary Bolduc, who is also still without a contract.
It's a shame that these two situations haven't been resolved yet, since they risk creating distractions in the locker room.
Some Habs fans believe that Arber Xhekaj can become a solid third-pair defenseman. He's very imposing and intimidating, and he allows other players to play with greater peace of -

“Gleb Pugachyov needs to play regularly” — Grant McCagg
via dose.ca
Montreal Canadiens fans will have another prospect to watch this year in the KHL.
Last year, there were already Alexander Zharovsky, Bogdan Konyushkov, and others, but now we can add Gleb Pugachyov to the list. However, it's not yet clear whether he'll see much ice time in the KHL.
He should get his chances, but all signs point to him shuttling back and forth between the Russian junior league (MHL), the KHL, and the VHL (the Russian equivalent of the AHL).
Grant McCagg closely follows the Habs' -
Super Bowl: Sean McDermott’s Bold Prediction
via dose.ca
Even though he's no longer at the helm of the Buffalo Bills, Sean McDermott continues to follow his former team closely. And clearly, he has a lot of faith in their chances for the upcoming NFL season.
The former Bills head coach didn't hesitate when asked to predict which two teams will make it to the next Super Bowl. His answer? Buffalo versus the Los Angeles Rams.
“Bills-Rams,” McDermott said during his appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, adding that it would be an excellent matchu -
The Yankees were interested in Kevin Gausman
via dose.ca
In early August, the Blue Jays decided to trade Kevin Gausman. At the time, it was the right thing to do.
Why? Because the team was heading for a crash.
One might wonder if the team regrets the trade today, given that it's missing (at least) one starting pitcher in Toronto's race for the playoffs 2.0.
That said, Brett Bateman (acquired in exchange for Gausman) is proving to be a valuable asset right now.
The Chicago Cubs have secured his services. It makes sense, since the Illinois team was in d -
Ivan Demidov’s agent wanted a different contract for his client
via dose.ca
The Montreal Canadiens, as we know, have their core players signed to long-term contracts at reasonable prices.
Ivan Demidov is the most recent core player to extend his contract, to $9.15 million per season for eight years.
There seems to be a trend within the organization where players are taking less money to help management build a better team.
Demidov's agent, Dan Milstein, gave an interview to The Montreal Gazette and discussed his client.
Milstein also mentioned that he had wanted a diffe -
Official Announcement Regarding Former Alouettes Player Vernon Adams Jr.
via dose.ca
The Calgary Stampeders will be able to count on their starting quarterback for their next game. Vernon Adams Jr. has officially been cleared to return to action after missing one game due to a head injury.
Adams, 33, participated fully in practice on Thursday for the first time since the incident three weeks ago. He has since successfully completed the Canadian Football League's (CFL) concussion protocol.
His name now appears at the top of Calgary's official depth chart ahead of the Labour Day C -
The Guardian helmet cover is gaining popularity among young soccer players
via dose.ca
Concussion prevention is becoming an increasingly important issue in football, particularly among young players. In this context, experts, parents, and even professional athletes are encouraging the use of the Guardian helmet cover, a protective device designed to reduce impacts to the head.
The Guardian consists of a padded shell that attaches directly to the outside of a traditional football helmet. Its use has been mandatory since 2023 for linemen in the Canadian Football League (CFL) during -
Grant McCagg believes that Aatos Koivu is ahead of Oliver Kapanen at the same age
via dose.ca
Aatos Koivu isn’t a name you hear mentioned all that often among the Montreal Canadiens’ prospects.
That's not entirely surprising, since he didn't put up big numbers in the Finnish professional league last year (nine points in 47 games).
Few people see him as a promising prospect for the Habs' future, even though it would be a great story to see Saku's son play for the Habs.
However, Grant McCagg has high hopes for him.
Without saying he'll become the long-awaited second-line center -
Giants: Rafael Devers Joins Barry Bonds and Willie Mays
via dose.ca
The San Francisco Giants' 2026 season is one to forget. But that hasn't stopped Rafael Devers from putting together a stellar campaign in the Bay Area.
So much so that during the Giants' game against the New York Mets yesterday (Saturday), the 29-year-old earned a spot in an exclusive club in the history of the California franchise, joining two of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history.
Indeed, Devers hit two home runs in his team's 9-5 victory over the Mets, bringing his total to -
It’s now confirmed for Harrison Smith
via dose.ca
After giving the possibility of retirement a great deal of thought, Harrison Smith has finally decided to continue his NFL career. The veteran linebacker will return to the Minnesota Vikings for his 15th season, a move confirmed Saturday by the organization.
According to reports by Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Smith is expected to sign a one-year deal worth $12.25 million. However, the contract could pay him up to $16.25 million depending on bonuses and other terms.

Ukrainian drones: The KHL recommends avoiding the plane
via dose.ca
Earlier this morning, I was talking about Russia and how it is trying by any means necessary to return to international hockey, despite the ongoing war with Ukraine.
International hockey without Russia's dominance just isn't the same, but still, one can understand the IIHF's refusal.
In fact, not only is this war severely undermining Russia's ambitions on the international stage, but it could now also harm all KHL teams.
In fact, at the start of the KHL season, league president Aleskey Morozov t -
Cardinals-Rockies: “Hat Gate” Continues
via dose.ca
On Friday night, St. Louis Cardinals manager Oli Marmol was ejected from the game against the Colorado Rockies after stepping in to defend rookie pitcher Hancel Rincon.
The young right-hander was making his Major League debut, but it was umpire Doug Eddings who caught the attention of the baseball world by making a big deal out of the way Rincon was wearing his cap.
The umpire told him to adjust the angle of his cap, and that sparked the drama that led to Marmol's ejection. After the game, the m -
Assistant Captain: “Hutson would be my choice”
via dose.ca
Brendan Gallagher's departure from the Montreal Canadiens this summer marked the end of a very significant chapter in the team's leadership, as Gally was one of the team's leaders.
Unfortunately, Gally's body just wasn't up to the task anymore, which forced management to trade him to the Vancouver Canucks—where Gally grew up—for the final year of his $6.5 million-a-year contract.
It's sad, but it had to be done, as the situation had become difficult for everyone—and especially -
Contract Extension for Roger Goodell
via dose.ca
Roger Goodell will continue to lead the NFL for several more years.
The league announced Sunday a four-season contract extension for its commissioner, confirming the continuation of a tenure that now spans nearly a quarter-century.
Under this new agreement, Goodell will officially remain with the NFL through the 2030 season. His contract will expire on March 31, 2031—almost at the same time as the current collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players.

Walter Cup: The Same Company Loses It for the Second Time

Last season, the Montreal Victoire won its first LPHF championship in the third season of the new professional women's hockey league.
This is a great achievement for the city and for the female athletes, and it deserves to be celebrated in a big way.
In fact, the team's players have been celebrating their 2025–2026 Walter Cup victory since the beginning of the summer, as the trophy has made its way through several cities.
However, the celebrations took a completely different turn two weeks -

With four hits yesterday against the Kansas City Royals, Kazuma Okamoto was the driving force behind his team's 4-3 victory.
With this fourth straight win, the Toronto Blue Jays are in the playoff picture this morning. In their last ten games, the Jays are 8-2, which is the best record in the Majors. International Hockey: Russia Is Doing Everything It Can to Be Readmitted

International hockey always delivers top-notch action, especially when the world's best players—those from the National Hockey League—take part.
I don't know anyone who didn't love the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, the Four Nations Tournament, and the various editions of the Olympic Games.
Watching countries compete against each other is always special and unique.
However, for the past few years—specifically since 2022—something has been missing from international hockey that -

Jason Maas has just made his mark on an important chapter in the history of the Montreal Alouettes. The head coach has earned his 43rd victory at the helm of the Montreal team, tying a record held by a true club legend: Marv Levy.
This achievement is particularly significant for Maas, who has been at the helm of the Alouettes for several seasons. With this 43rd win, he now ties Levy for the most wins by a head coach in franchise history.

Laval University's Rouge et Or got off to a strong start to the season in terms of results, but certainly not in terms of entertainment. In front of a crowd of 17,130 at PEPS, the Quebec City team shut out the Concordia Stingers 14-0 in a game where both offenses struggled immensely.
This victory nonetheless marks the Rouge et Or's first home shutout since 2019—an interesting statistic for Glen Constantin's squad, even though the head coach was far from ready to claim victory too soon.

“The other teams are waiting for the Canadiens with a brick and a lantern.”
via dose.ca
We know we're repeating ourselves, but the CH hasn't had as eventful a summer as expected.
And since Monday, the media hasn't stopped talking about it.
Félix Séguin clarified one point: the other teams are standing firm against the Habs in negotiations. That's what he told Mario Langlois last night on 98.5 Sports.
It's definitely not going to be easy for Kent Hughes to improve his team. But Séguin and Langlois believe that the long-awaited improvement might come from within -

The Zachary Bolduc Case: “Maybe a one-year contract would make sense”
via dose.ca
Zachary Bolduc currently still does not have a contract for the upcoming season. And with the team's golf tournament set to take place in less than 10 days, time is running out to reach an agreement.
The golf tournament isn't a deadline in and of itself… but we agree that, for everyone's sake, it would be best to have this matter settled by then.
But in reality, one can't help but wonder what's holding up the negotiations. Whether it's money, the contract length, or some other factor, the -
Jameson Taillon (already) back on the injured list
via dose.ca
The Blue Jays' five-pitcher rotation lasted two innings. It's better than nothing, obviously, but…
Last night, during a Blue Jays victory, Jameson Taillon got injured. An elbow injury is to blame for his exit from yesterday's game.
We all expected him to be placed on the injured list, and that's exactly what happened. The team announced it on social media.
Ricky Tiedemann is therefore back in the majors after recently (yesterday) being sent down to Triple-A.ROSTER MOVES: LHP Ricky Tiedema -
“It was tough”: Brendan Gallagher opens up about his last few months with the Habs
via dose.ca
For the first time since the 2012-13 season, the Canadiens are preparing to start a season without Brendan Gallagher. Earlier this summer, the veteran was traded to the Vancouver Canucks.
He was traded for future considerations, as the Canadiens wanted above all to accommodate him, given his many years of loyal service.
That said, we hadn't heard much from Gallagher himself since he requested a trade at the end of the season. He spent most of the playoffs in the press box, and we were wondering
