Fusion energy could be the solution to global power problems
via globalnews.caFor decades, scientists have strived to recreate “fusion energy,” the same chemical reaction that fuels the sun and the stars. Both private and public entities are vying to be the first to bring it to earth. As Robin Gill reports, one B.C. company has the likes of Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates funding millions to... -

Ian Mulgrew: Father seeks justice after son's abduction
via vancouversun.comDemetri Urella struggled to find words to describe the smell of his son’s hair, the touch of his skin, the pitch of his laugh … the boy’s essence slipping through memory’s fingers like water.
The 49-year-old helicopter pilot choked up, recalling the tightness in his chest, the shortness of breath, the panic that gripped him Oct. 20, 2016, when his son was abducted from the family home in Langley.
“It’s like yesterday,” he says, embarrassed at being emot -

Giants growing up before our very eyes in these WHL playoffs
via theprovince.comThese Vancouver Giants seem to be learning.
They got ahead of themselves after winning Game 1 of the opening round of these playoffs by a 7-1 count over the Seattle Thunderbirds, ending up largely just spectators in a 4-1 Game 2 loss to Thunderbirds a night later.
These Giants were then up 3-1 on the Thunderbirds going into the third period of Game 4 of that set and, even though they’d shown a knack for closing out tight contests all season, they lost their team game at the most inopportun -
Daphne Bramham: The true legacy of Lt. Leslie Miller
via vancouversun.comIt’s a story that reads like a novel and for good reason. It isn’t true.
Last year for Remembrance Day, I wrote that because of Canadian soldier Leslie Miller, oak trees once again grow on Vimy Ridge, the site of a terrible, four-day battle that began April 9, 1917, leaving 3,598 Canadians dead and more than 7,000 wounded.
The story that I got from the Vimy Foundation and Vimy Oaks Legacy is that after the battle Miller scooped up some acorns, mailed them home and later planted them -

A twist on house calls: New wave of telemedicine uses mobile phone video to link patients, doctors
via vancouversun.comStick out your smartphone and say AHHHHH.
Although it’s early days for a new wave of telemedicine, some Canadians can now avoid trips to the doctor’s office by using their mobile phone’s video camera.

Other companies are experimenting with similar services, but Telus has hopes of becoming the main player -

Sikh Heritage Month: The South Asian pioneers of Fraser Mills
via vancouversun.comNarain Singh Dosanjh was only 16 years old when he made the gruelling month-long voyage by sea from India to Vancouver in 1907.

Attorney General David Eby says parents with dependent kids should make will
via vancouversun.comVICTORIA — B.C.’s attorney general is encouraging people to make a will, especially because most residents with dependent children do not have one.
David Eby says that’s the reason the province has proclaimed the upcoming week as Make a Will Week.
He says in a release that people without a will would have their estate distributed according to the law, not necessarily how they would have wished.
Eby says important decisions such as who would raise children are part of a will, an -

#Realtalk … What they don't tell you about running a race
via vancouversun.comTime for a little #realtalk. So you ran a race, good for you, now what? My first run was very anti-climactic, I trained hard, I crossed that line. A goal was completed that I never in my life imagined I could or would ever complete. Part of me expected fireworks and a band on playing just for me on the grandstand. But turns out I had very unrealistic expectations. There were no fireworks or band playing just for me, it was just over.
