Retired Sgt. Shinder Kirk was involved in a collision between two pickup trucks in Nanaimo on Saturday.
Kirk was a media relations officer at the Abbotsford Police Department before joining B.C.’s anti-gang Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit as spokesman.

The veteran cab driver, one of the survivors of a fiery crash that shut down the Burrard Street Bridge a few days before Christmas, was fighting for his life.
“I remember nothing about that day at all,” said Claypool, who was in a coma for about 12 days after the crash. “According to my passenger when I talked to him, he said I was very lucky I don’t.”
