Insiders insisting that NLL closing in on new CBA with players
via theprovince.comMultiple National Lacrosse League insiders are reporting on social media that team owners and players are about to sign off on a new collective bargaining agreement.
Last week, the NLL cancelled the first two weekends of the regular season, which included the Vancouver Warriors’ home opener against the Toronto Rock at Rogers Arena on Dec. 8 in that second set of games. The players had refused to go to training camp without a new deal in place.

Ed Willes: CFL’s deal with Mexican league smacks of desperation
via theprovince.comIf the history of the CFL has taught us anything, it’s taught us the Canadian game gets into big trouble when its reach exceeds its grasp.
The most glaring example, of course, came in the mid-90s when the league embarked on a ruinous expansion plan to the United States which lasted two years and left behind a story which is now pretty funny but, at the time, almost killed the venerable institution.
If you doubt that, I have four words for you: the Las Vegas Posse.
But that wasn’t the -

Video: Canucks’ Antoine Roussel fined $5,000 for biting Sharks’ Marc-Edouard Vlasic
via theprovince.comThe Vancouver Canucks lost their eighth straight game Friday night, getting shut out by the San Jose Sharks 4-0. It’s bad for this team right now. I don’t even want to talk about it.
Fortunately, winger Antoine Roussel gave us something else to talk about when he bit Marc-Edouard Vlasic on the hand at the end of the game. On Saturday, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced it had fined Roussel $5,000 — the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Ag -

Find tranquility by transforming your bathroom into a spa-like oasis
via vancouversun.comAs life becomes busier and we struggle to find the sweet spot in work-life balance, tranquil spaces are more important than ever.
Many of the design features that imbue bathrooms with a calm and luxurious vibe—soothing neutral colours, wood accents, layers of lighting—originate with spa-inspired spaces. Homeowners have been quick to include these fundamentals in their bathrooms to help lull away the cares of the day.

Make your next holiday party merry, bright and hassle-free with these top trends
via vancouversun.comForty years of dishing up the holidays? Now that’s some serious festive expertise.
Back in 1978, when customers would drop by Susan Mendelson’s gourmet shop in Kitsilano, they’d bring their own casserole dishes so she could fill them with her food and they could pass it off as their own. Hence: The Lazy Gourmet.

Let’s bring back the tradition of the post-work apéritif
via vancouversun.comWhether you call it apéro, aperitivo or apéritif, the classic after-work drink is so much more than the liquid in your glass (though it is that, too, of course). It is the refreshing pause in your day, the transition from work to home life, the moment you connect with friends or just reconnect with yourself.
The apéritif has been part of civilized social life for a couple of centuries, especially in Italy and France, where living well is a national mandate. In fact, you can -

The Hester Creek vineyard celebrates 50 years of growing vinifera grapes
via vancouversun.comWhen I boasted to an Italian winemaker a few years ago about Hester Creek Estate Winery’s fine Trebbiano, he scoffed that the Okanagan lacked the climate, the soil and, above all, the culture to succeed with an Italian varietal.
He was wrong on all counts, including culture. The Hester Creek vineyard, which celebrates 50 years of growing vinifera grapes, was originally planted by Joe Busnardo, a native of Treviso in Northern Italy and a graduate of an agricultural school there. He emigrate -

Vancouver Sun letters to the editor for Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018
via vancouversun.comI take early and late flights on a regular basis for work so I take taxis. On the last trip, I waited 45 minutes for a cab home.
When I read Tuesday’s article about some of the rules and regulations being put in place to bring Uber in, I pre-booked YVR parking for a trip and I will pre-book it for next week’s trip and so on. I’m driving. Every other city has figured out ride-hailing so why can’t we?

Residents of Maywood on the Park will be near amenities, green space
via vancouversun.comMaywood on the Park, Intracorp’s new residential highrise in Burnaby, checks off all the boxes when it comes to the maxim of location (next to a park), location (close to shopping), location (near a SkyTrain station).
Planned for 6463 Silver Avenue, the 32-storey tower will be close enough to shopping malls and the Metrotown SkyTrain station to benefit from their proximity, but far enough away – on the northern side of Maywood Park – to be slightly removed from the busy-ness th -
Dan Fumano: Berkeley Tower owner increases buyout offer to tenants
via vancouversun.comThe owner of a West End tower where tenants have organized to fight evictions offered more cash Friday to persuade residents to leave their homes.
The development at the 16-storey Berkeley Tower overlooking English Bay is an example of increasing tensions between tenants and landlords in a city with near-zero vacancy rate and a rapidly shifting rental housing landscape.
Next week, Vancouver city council is to consider an “anti-renoviction” motion. And the provincial government&r -
Vancouver's Little Mountain: The money and the sad history behind a long-stalled project
via vancouversun.comThe park where Jeannine Silvestrone played as a girl is cordoned off by a chain-link fence, and the spot where her childhood home stood is now thick with 10-year-old weeds.
“The site was beautiful. … There was lots of outdoor space. The community was very involved with each other, they helped each other and supported each other because we were all in financial need,” Silvestrone says as she stands outside the once-vibrant Little Mountain housing project near 37th and Main -
Canucks at night: Penalty kills in your nightmares
via theprovince.comLosing eight straight games is partly about bad luck.
It’s partly about playing poorly at key moments.
And sometimes it’s about running into a Stanley Cup contender.
On Friday, the Canucks had plenty of chances to score. They’ve scored enough this year to suggest they’d bag some of those chances.
Against the San Jose Sharks, generating chances deserves praise.
But at the end of the day, if you give up three power play goals, it’s going to be hard to win, even if you -

Video: Canucks winger Antoine Roussel bites Sharks’ Marc-Edouard Vlasic
via theprovince.comThe Vancouver Canucks lost their eighth straight game Friday night, getting shut out by the San Jose Sharks 4-0. It’s bad for this team right now. I don’t even want to talk about it.
Fortunately, winger Antoine Roussel gave us something else to talk about when he bit Marc-Edouard Vlasic on the hand at the end of the game. Here’s video, courtesy NBC Sports California’s Brodie Brazil:
Here’s @Vlasic44 getting his hand bit at the end of tonight’s #SJSharks win. p -

Sharks 4, Canucks 0: Special teams become Shark bait in eighth straight setback
via theprovince.comSAN JOSE, Calif. — If the Vancouver Canucks are having regular nightmares about killing penalties, it shouldn’t surprise anyone.
The Canucks played very well at even strength here Friday night against the San Jose Sharks, but still lost 4-0.
It was their not-so-special teams that told the story.
The Canucks’ penalty kill has surrendered goals in seven consecutive games now, their opponents scoring 10 times in total.
And on their own power plays, the Canucks went goalless for th
