It looked like and sounded like training camp.
Battle drills, get-to-the-net drills and Travis Green drilling home his hard-to-play-against edict with a flurry of F-bombs on Sunday at Rogers Arena.
“I thought it was great for us,” said Vancouver Canucks centre Bo Horvat. “We need to get back to the way we were in camp and getting back to that hard-nosed mentality because we’re not going to accept losing. It was an intense practice and a hard practice.”

Canucks at Night: Penguins soar above Canucks in Vancouver
via theprovince.comJust what the players from Pittsburgh might have been feeling on this night is hard to guess, but you know playing this one can’t have been easy.
There’s a clear connection between the town and their hockey team. There’s a lot of success tied into that, of course, but there’s also a sense of “this is my team.”
That much was clear to me when I visited Pittsburgh nearly two weeks ago on that epic Canucks road trip.
In Canada, we’re so used to our teams hav -
Some cry foul over Delta mayor-elect's plan to consider charging non-residents more at city rec centres
via vancouversun.comIf elected, George Harvie pledged to put “Delta families first.” But as the mayor-elect prepares to take office, some are wondering who he’ll be putting second — and if his plans could be discriminatory.
During the election campaign, Harvie pledged to “look at a user fee structure” that is higher for out-of-Delta residents who use the city’s recreation facilities. In a recent interview with The Delta Optimist, he singled out people from Surrey, Richmond -
Where are the seeds? Cannabis stores across Canada face shortages
via vancouversun.comLicensed cannabis producers have put filling Canadians’ pot demands ahead of their desire to fill pots.
With federal legalization of recreational cannabis on Oct. 17, Canadians the age of majority in most provinces (19 in B.C.) gained the right to grow up to four plants per household, yet there is no legal means to obtain seeds or seedlings. None of the online government cannabis stores for B.C., Ontario, Alberta have listings for starting materials, and it is unclear when they will. -

Wilson throws 3 TDs in 2nd quarter, Seahawks top Lions 28-14
via theprovince.comDETROIT — Russell Wilson was perfect.
Seattle’s game plan was pretty good, too.
Wilson threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to put the Seahawks ahead and they went on to beat the Detroit Lions 28-14 Sunday, leaning on their running game and defence just as they have throughout their turnaround.
“We can do whatever we want right now,” Wilson said.

via vancouversun.comPoor John Bray, whether he had it coming we’ll never know, but he probably never saw it coming.
Bray’s story is just one that you’ll hear on the Lost Souls of Gastown walking tour, one of many ‘haunted tours’ in Vancouver.

Wheat Kings in town with Vancouver Giants looking to rebound this afternoon
via theprovince.comMichael Dyck’s feelings on goalie deployment should become even more apparent today.
The Vancouver Giants coach has been largely alternating David Tendeck and Trent Miner between the pipes so far this WHL season. Tendeck got the start Saturday against the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Langley Events Centre, which seemed to leave Miner primed to get the call versus the Brandon Wheat Kings at the LEC this afternoon (4 p.m., Sports 650).
Adding to that, Miner grew up in the Brandon area. He was -
Birds, squirrels and other animals put zap on B.C. Hydro power supply
via vancouversun.comBirds and animals are a problem for B.C. Hydro.
At its power substations, crows land on exposed switches, squirrels gnaw through wires and 25 to 30 times a year, such wildlife incursions knock out power to customers, a technologically plugged-in lot that is increasingly impatient about the interruptions.
And the unfortunate animals are most often, quite literally, toast.
