B.C. to get just a single cannabis store on day one of legalization
via vancouversun.comDon’t count on more than one legal recreational cannabis store to open its doors in B.C. on federal legalization day next month.
The B.C. government has said the opening of new cannabis stores “won’t happen overnight” on Oct. 17, when the federal Cannabis Act comes into force. But a survey of local governments and cannabis consultants reveals it may actually take up to 18 months before potential operators have trudged through the rigorous process of municipal rezoning, co -
Makeover: A refreshing new look for retired high school teacher
via vancouversun.comMichelle Hall is a 58-year-old retired high school teacher. She was feeling “old” and decided to treat herself with a style refresh.
Michelle has fine and naturally wavy hair. It was previously coloured and had faded to a brassy copper-red tone. I wanted to keep her colour in the warm family but refine it to suite her complexion and eye colour.
I applied foils highlights around her face and strategically throughout her hair to brighten around it up. I then tapped in a cool, copper-br -

Vancouver's 'mini-mega' church pastor probes the blessing and curse of his ambition
via vancouversun.comI probably shouldn’t get in the habit of publishing guest book reviews in which people get the chance to praise a favorite local spiritual leader. It could get out of hand. But in this case, since Jason Byassee is an accomplished writer, I’m pleased to offer his admiring thoughts on one of the city’s successful Christian leaders.
I’ve written about Tenth Avenue Church Pastor Ken Shigematsu, who is finding creative ways to bridge the awkward gap between evangelicalism and -
Fred Lee’s Social Network: Fishing for kids
via theprovince.comBIG CATCH: Like most Canadians, Tina Chiao and her husband Lee McCormick are huge hockey fans. For Tina and Lee, they had aspirations of their son Andrew taking up Canada’s game. At the age of two, their eldest was diagnosed with autism. Devastated, they, like any parent, were determined to provide their son with all the opportunities of a regular childhood, including playing hockey, an interest Andrew expressed. Tina and Andrew saw his enthusiasm and potential; others just saw the extra e -

Anger.

Canada says B.C. Indigenous basket making an event of historic significance

Whitecaps Game Day: Caps need a late-season surge against Sounders
via theprovince.comThe wagons have been circled, and a defiant, jutted-chin, us-versus-the-world attitude has been put on full display.
And the bellicose self-belief projected by the Vancouver Whitecaps as they scrap and claw in an effort to fight back into the playoff picture has been bolstered by a timely six-game unbeaten streak.
Yet the oddsmakers give the Caps just a one-in-three chance of making the Major League Soccer dance. And it’s not just the odds that are against them — it’s history. -
Growth, density lead the debate in most council races in Metro Vancouver
via vancouversun.comAs next month’s municipal elections draw closer, debates around development are a common theme throughout Metro Vancouver.
But the nature of the debate varies by municipality, as each faces its own unique challenges. On the North Shore, the focus is the effect of growth on traffic.
