VICTORIA — Victoria councillors have recommended that the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada’s first prime minister, be removed from the Pandora Avenue entrance to city hall on Saturday.
Councillors meeting as the committee of the whole Thursday morning voted 7-1 to remove the statue erected in 1982 and put a plaque in its place. Coun. Geoff Young was the lone dissenting vote. Coun. Ben Isitt was absent.
The vote must be ratified in a council meeting Thursday night.

North Vancouver thief caught on camera stealing a $70k camera
via theprovince.comNorth Vancouver RCMP have released a surveillance image of a man they say stole a $70,000 high-end digital production camera from a camera-rental store last month.

New Zealand woman dies as group jumps from bridge in Sicamous
via vancouversun.comSICAMOUS — A 23-year-old New Zealand woman has died after she and three friends jumped from a bridge in Sicamous.
RCMP say it happened at around 2 a.m. Wednesday when all four people leaped from the bridge, 20 metres above the channel connecting Shuswap and Mara lakes, 75 kilometres north of Vernon.
When the woman didn’t resurface after the jump her friends found her and pulled her to shore where she was rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead.

Changes to ICBC auto insurance to be announced today
