For much of Woo’s hockey career, he said it hasn’t mattered. He has just been one of the guys.
Now, it wasn’t always that way.
“When I was really young, I was picked on,” Woo said Saturday. “I was picked on because of my background. But I used that to my advantage. It fuelled my fi

Jason Botchford: Canucks come away from Dallas draft satisfied with defensive depth
via theprovince.comDALLAS — The Vancouver Canucks swear this wasn’t part of a master plan.
But if last year was the their attempt to fix the offence at the NHL entry Draft, this was their big swing at repairing the blue-line.
The Canucks went defence with three of their first four picks in Dallas this weekend. They hadn’t done anything like that since 2002. They’ll be hoping this class will work out much better than that one which included Kirill Koltsov, Dennis Grot and Brett Skinner.

Vancouver Weather: Mainly cloudy, clearing near noon
via vancouversun.comVANCOUVER, B.C. – Saturday’s weather in Metro Vancouver looks like a mixed bag of clouds, sun, and possibly rain. Environment Canada says it will be mainly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the morning. The sky should clear up though around noon, with a high of 21 C. That’s good news for Vancouver’s dragon boat racers, as the annual festival takes place at False Creek this weekend. Sunday looks a little brighter, with mainly sunny skies, with some clouds roll -
In the steps of pilgrims along the Camino
via theprovince.comA long resident on our bucket list, the pilgrimage to the great cathedral at Santiago, purportedly containing the bones of the apostle James, was supplemented by a much less busy leg to Finnesterre, where the Romans believed the world ended.
I wasn’t expecting celestial harmonies and rays of heavenly luminsence, but I thought the start of our pilgrimage to Santiago would be more poetic than stumbling into an overcast day feeling slightly the worse for wear.

Jason Botchford: Canucks feel ‘lucky’ to draft dynamic defenceman with seventh pick
via theprovince.comDALLAS — Most lost count long ago over how many times the Canucks have tried to find a puck-moving defenceman who can run a power play.
Until Friday, they swung and missed every single time.
Some hoped it was going to be Ben Hutton. Then there was the possibility it could be Troy Stecher. Philip Larsen had a chance. And so did Michael Del Zotto.
There were even fawning stories suggesting Derrick Pouliot could be the next great offensive defenceman in Vancouver. That didn’t age well. -
Jason Botchford: GM Benning believes Hughes is close to being ready to play for Canucks
via theprovince.comDALLAS — The next big question in Vancouver revolves around Quinn Hughes.
Will he have the opportunity to make the Canucks in the fall?
There’s a joke going around Dallas, and it may be half serious.
“Hughes is already the Canucks’ best defenceman.”
That says as much about the current state of the Canucks’ blue-line as it does about Hughes’ readiness to compete in the NHL.
He said he wants it. But this is going to be a massive, collective decision.
