Burnaby house fire forces residents out of their homes
via vancouversun.comSeveral people have been displaced after a fire in Burnaby on Saturday evening destroyed a duplex.
It remains unclear what caused the fire but Acting Asst. Chief Stew Maltman said the home was “fully involved” by the time firefighters arrived to the fire, located in the 5600-block of Royal Oak Avenue and reported around 11:30 p.m.
A total of 32 firefighters, five engines, two ladders and a command vehicle were on site to battle the blaze. The fire took about 45 minutes to knock down. -

Flipped SUV, downed power line, closes busy Surrey intersection for hours
via theprovince.comFirst responders had to wait for power to be cut from downed power lines before rescuing a man from a flipped SUV in Surrey on Saturday.
The SUV flipped onto its roof at Scott Road and 80th Avenue around 1 p.m., knocking down a power pole, said Battalion Chief Reo Jerome of the Surrey Fire Service. It apparently hit other vehicles first. Power had to be cut to wires which had landed on top of the vehicle before an elderly man inside could be safely rescued.
