  The Supreme Court of Canada has dismissed a leave to appeal by former Vancouver notary Rashida Samji of her criminal conviction for operating an $110-million Ponzi scheme.
  The decision by the high court not to hear Samji’s appeal was announced Friday.
  It means that Samji, who had been out on bail pending the decision, will now serve her six-year sentence handed down in B.C. Supreme Court in 2016.

  A cyclist is dead after colliding with a dump truck Friday morning in North Vancouver.
  The collision happened shortly after 7 a.m. at the intersection of St. Andrews Avenue and East Second Street, according to RCMP.
  Emergency crews responded but the 54-year-old North Vancouver man died.
  The man’s family has been notified but he has not been identified by RCMP.
  Police say the driver of the dump truck remained on scene. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

  RCMP investigators have confirmed that the remains of two people have been found in a house that caught fire near Vernon last week.
  On May 21, at around 4:15 a.m. the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were called to assist the North Westside Fire Rescue with a home engulfed in flames located in the 300-block of Northernview Drive on the west side of Okanagan Lake, southwest of Vernon.
