A thriving liquid natural gas industry in B.C. would require a 50-per-cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from every other sector of the economy in order to meet the province’s 2030 climate goals, according to Green party leader Andrew Weaver.
“Emissions would have to be cut, not just by industry, but in every part of the economy,” said Weaver in a radio interview. “I do not believe that is possible.”

Sense of inevitability around arrest of MPs Elizabeth May, Kennedy Stewart at Kinder Morgan protest
via vancouversun.comIt’s no surprise that B.C. MPs Elizabeth May and Kennedy Stewart got themselves arrested Friday at the gate of the Kinder Morgan tank farm in Burnaby on Friday.
Indeed, it was almost inevitable. There was “almost an expectation” that the pair of pipeline opponents had to take decisive action, said Max Cameron, a UBC political scientist. “The province has provided a kind of political cover for this with its opposition.”

Will protest escalate in Kinder Morgan pipeline fight?
via vancouversun.comOn Wednesday, a day that began cool and overcast, a protest slowly unfolded on Burnaby Mountain against Kinder Morgan’s $7.4-billion Trans Mountain oil pipeline expansion.
Organized, peaceful and scripted, it resulted two hours later in the arrest of a dozen people by more than three dozen RCMP officers.
The protesters — including a pair of retired opera singers — were arrested because they violated a B.C. Supreme Court order not to block the gates into Kinder Morgan’s ta -
