Winter storm to hit Metro Vancouver this weekend
via vancouversun.comIt’s going to be a blustery weekend in Metro Vancouver, as a storm moves across the South Coast bringing heavy rain, wind, and even snow in some areas.
Environment Canada posted a special weather statement for the region on Saturday, saying there will be mixed precipitation in the area. That means there will likely be wet snow, or rain mixed with snow, on Saturday.
The federal weather agency says the slushy mix will likely change to to rain in the afternoon as freezing levels rise.

The Home Front: Martha Sturdy, an artist and designer in her prime
via vancouversun.comGetting older can be incredibly freeing, says Vancouver artist and designer Martha Sturdy, known internationally for her furniture, tabletop ware, sculptures and wall art. Her latest collection, PRIME, supports this sentiment.
The collection, which debuts at leading home-decor fair Maison et Objet Paris this month, includes pieces that are both functional — a club chair, dining table, coffee table, stools, shelving and a screen — and bold pieces of art. Made from resi -
Bristol Heights noteworthy for convenience, sense of community
via vancouversun.comWhen you buy a home in a brand new, purpose-built development, it can sometimes take a while for a sense of community to develop – for people to meet the neighbours, to get to know each other and to make new friendships. REAL SCOOP: Feuding "Brothers Keepers" escalate gang war

Opinion: Why new year’s resolutions merit more than 'meh!'
via vancouversun.comThe time has come and gone for 2018 new year’s resolution-setting. Or has it? Such was the gist of a recent (fairly friendly) Weston Family Feud.
I’d made my pitch for new year’s resolutions in the highest court — the Court of Family Opinion. One of my children would rather have eye surgery than commit to resolutions; for the second, it was “meh” (From The Urban Dictionary: “Indifference; to be used when one simply does not care”); and the third wa -
Opinion: We have sufficient capacity to carry out transportation plan
via vancouversun.comOn Thursday, the Mayors’ Council unanimously approved a motion to reaffirm its commitment to major transportation projects in Metro Vancouver. The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of B.C. applauds the decision, and urges that this momentum continue, as now is not the time to delay transportation projects in our region.

Opinion: 30 years post-Morgentaler Decision: The journey remembered
via vancouversun.comMorgentaler Decision Day is Jan. 28. That day, a mere 30 years ago, was life-changing for many Canadian women. Dr. Henry Morgentaler was a leader who risked his life to provide women access to safe abortions. He was integral in the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision to overturn the abortion law in Canada as unconstitutional, violating Sec. 7 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. That was a landmark decision for reproductive rights for women, and the case was dubbed the Morgentaler Decisio -
Opinion: 30 years after Morgentaler, abortion shows no tangible gains for women
via vancouversun.comJan. 28 marks 30 years since the Supreme Court struck down the Criminal Code restrictions on abortion, effectively making abortion a free-for-all in Canada. While limited abortion had been legal in Canada since 1969, the landmark Morgentaler ruling in 1988 eliminated all remaining limits from the law, although it notably did not institute any “right” to abortion.
So where has that ruling gotten us?
To be clear, I write as a pro-life woman, and believe abortion is an unjusti -

Fortunately, there was no tsunami and the warning was cancelled around 4:30 a.m. Although there was no imminent danger, the tsunami alert served a useful purpose. It was a real-life test of our emergency preparedness. And, although it wasn’t perfect, we passed.

Editorial: Crackdown on illegal Robson Street pot market the right move
via vancouversun.comUntil the federal government passes a law that legalizes the recreational use of marijuana, widely expected to happen sometime this summer, selling cannabis is illegal. Not only was the Robson Street open-air pot market dealing in an illegal product, it was operating in a public space without permission.
