And then my pall Bill called — he really did play that game — and he had the answer, which in hindsight, of course, left me saying, “DOH.”
The fair catch rule. NFL teams can’t just put up a rugby-style high drop-kick and then hope to win the ball back. (Yes, you can drop-kick on kickoffs.) Otherwise, of course guys like Adam Zaruba would have -
How to live on a tight budget in a big city
via theprovince.comQ: I finished university last year and took a great job in our mid-sized town. Unfortunately, when the owners retired the business closed. I’ve now got what I thought was a pretty decent job in a big city but my living costs are so much higher than they were before. Rent, food, transportation… I don’t have enough left for other expenses. I really like this job and it is a great stepping stone in my career, but not if it keeps me broke. Is there any way how to live on a tight b -
Willes’ Musings: Is Ken Holland a candidate to replace Canucks’ GM Jim Benning?
via theprovince.comThe Vancouver Canucks might be headed for a five-day break but the Monday morning musings and meditations on the world of sports never rests.
• The media, like nature, abhors a vacuum and the longer Jim Benning’s contractual situation goes unresolved, the louder the conjecture will grow about his future.
As of this writing, the most popular scenario is Detroit GM Ken Holland, who’s also on the last year of his deal, moving to Vancouver as the hockey overlord in a restructured or -
Douglas Todd: Explosive B.C. court case details seven migration scams
via vancouversun.comA shocking B.C. Supreme Court case that pitted two rich families from China against each other provides grim revelations about the kind of migration, tax, and real-estate scams regularly occurring in Metro Vancouver and beyond.
Immigration and tax lawyers are stunned that the Fu and Zhu families became embroiled in a lengthy civil suit over three multi-million dollar houses they purchased together in Vancouver, since their case provides evidence of their illicit schemes around real estate, tax a -

The Provies: The Sutter reflex, hell shift, the Marky knockout, and the Tanev situation
via theprovince.comBEST INSTINCT
After his opening overtime shift, Brandon Sutter was left on the bench breathing in as much air as he could absorb.
It was his first game in seven weeks. He had missed 21 games.
This was not easy. He bent over, huffing.
If he had anything at all left in that overtime, it wasn’t much.
His coach knew it too.
Green had played Sutter more than seven minutes in the third.
The game ended in regulation on a Sutter shift.
And it started overtime on a Sutter shift.
“I was trying -

Ryan Giggs named new Wales boss — and seriously, Carl Robinson was never an option
via theprovince.comRyan Giggs is now the manager of Wales’ national soccer team.
This may dismay of some in Vancouver, who for their own reasoning were hopeful that Carl Robinson, coach of the Whitecaps, would get the job. (The reasoning? They want a manager who plays their favourite players more, or who has a more upbeat system, or some other gripe.)
Robbo at the head of Wales was never in the cards though.
Asked last week what he thought of the noise in recent months about him being an option, Robinson lau -

Reflecting on safety, failing as flu fighter and racing as Big Unknown
via vancouversun.comMy decision of going to work last week while suffering with a wicked cold — so that many other colleagues could call in sick — has backfired. Miserably.
The Year of the Dog has started early and poorly for this sniffling newshound as I’m feeling really ruff. And yes, the voice has gone husky and the joints are howling, too. With apologies to Dave Grohl and his Seattle rock band, being a flu fighter sucks.
Three out of the past five nights I’ve shaken more than Chuck Berry
