More than 9,000 customers stretching from Langley to Chilliwack were without power in their homes as of Sunday morning, according to BC Hydro. That figure was an improvement over the 27,000 customers who were without power on Saturday and the more than 100,000 customers at one point on Friday.

Two accidents in Surrey; one car struck a power pole, another caused a car to burst into flames

Police were called at about 2:51 p.m. after a collision at the intersection of 104 Avenue and Whalley Boulevard. The police found that a vehicle had struck and broken a power pole, resulting in a power outage and the broken pole blocking the road.

Overdose crisis: Hope for change in 2018 after deadliest year on record
via vancouversun.comIn the coming months, the B.C. Coroners Service will release a report tallying overdose deaths in 2017, and the number will confirm that it has been yet another abysmal year for people who use drugs, as well as their loved ones.
Already in the first 10 months of 2017, at least 1,208 people died of an illicit drug overdose in B.C. That’s well above the 683 people who died during the same period last year, when there was a total of 985 overdose deaths, according to the agency.

Winter storm wreaks havoc in Fraser Valley

Saturday morning, BC Hydro reports more than 27,000 customers between Langley and Hope are still without power after freezing rain, snow and ice caused damage to the region’s electrical infrastructure.
