Councillors have given third reading to a bylaw that would fine businesses $100 if they sold or provided plastic bags.
Adoption of the bylaw is expected in early January and, if approved, it’s to effect in July, with enforcement beginning in 2019.
Businesses would be required to ask customers if they need a bag, and charge 15 cents for a paper bag, or $2 for a reusable one.

Pressured to end the trophy hunt during the election campaign, the government last August announced it would ban all hunting of grizzlies in the Great Bear Rainforest but still allow food-only hunts elsewhere in B.C.

'Injuries and casualties’ from Amtrak derailment south of Seattle

The train derailed about 40 miles (64 kilometres) south of Seattle before 8 a.m. Monday, spilling at least one train car on to busy Interstate 5.

B.C. skiers warned after tracks found in Rogers Pass area bombed for avalanches
via vancouversun.comROGERS PASS, B.C. — Parks Canada is investigating a recent incursion into a prohibited area that’s regularly blasted to bring down avalanches along the highway through Rogers Pass.
Staff discovered fresh ski and snowboard tracks in Macdonald West, part of a closed area in Glacier National Park on Wednesday.
