Ed Willes: Giving thanks as Canucks’ start to the season is pure gravy
via theprovince.comIf memory serves, Detroit Red Wings’ GM Ken Holland was the first man to identify American Thanksgiving as a watershed moment in the life of an NHL season.
The Holland Theorem, which has since morphed into The Thanksgiving Day Playoff Principle, asserted that teams have played one-quarter of their schedule by the end of November and, therefore, have a good idea of where they stand in relation to the rest of the league.
Some accountants then took Mr. Holland’s opus one step farther an -

Obituary: Vancouver underground artistic legend Al Neil dies at 93
via vancouversun.comAl Neil was an unknown legend.
Most Vancouverites have never heard of him. But in the Vancouver art world he was a giant of the avant-garde, a triple threat equally adept at music, art and writing.
“He was experimental, and he was always pushing the envelope, trying to expand the concept of art beyond the regular gallery art kind of situation,” said artist Michael De Courcy.
“He was passionate, he was driven. Not so much by the need for monetary success, but to satisfy his own -
After spending on Black Friday start thinking about Giving Tuesday
via vancouversun.comAn estimated one in five Canadians will spend about $350 on consumer goods on Black Friday. It’s now approaching Boxing Day as the best day for consumer deals in the country. Black Friday plus Cyber Monday equals a $50-billion spending spree by North Americans during the next four days.
But rather than spending excessively and facing a debt hangover in January, there is another way to celebrate Christmas: by helping others.
One way people are giving back is with Giving Tuesday, which focus -

Keyboard Kimura: We’re going to miss Michael Bisping when’s he gone
via theprovince.comMichael Bisping is an ass. I feel comfortable saying that because the 38-year-old veteran has used the same word and various other synonyms to describe himself to me in the past.
