Douglas Todd: Reducing immigration to protect culture not seen as racist by most
via vancouversun.comRacism. Immigration.
Few topics can combine to ignite such anger, contempt and division.
It was not always this way. The belief that it is racist to want to reduce immigration has only been a significant viewpoint since the 1960s for some in the West. It’s still not a common belief among people in Asia.
A Vancouver-raised demographer has discovered that people of good will, across nations, use the word racism differently. Their disagreement over the meaning has lead to often-bitter, possib -

Daphne Bramham: Winston Blackmore launches new challenge against anti-polygamy law
via vancouversun.comIn 2011, the B.C. Supreme Court ruled that Canada’s anti-polygamy law was valid and “demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.”
But Canada’s best-known polygamist Winston Blackmore — a man with at least 24 wives and 149 children — disagrees. And he is challenging that law starting Tuesday in a Cranbrook courtroom in the hope that his conviction on one count of polygamy will be stayed, the trial declared an abuse of process, or an order is g -

via vancouversun.comMetro Vancouver gas prices hit about $1.45 per litre this weekend with the hike expected to last until about Wednesday or Thursday.
GasBuddy petroleum analyst Dan McTeague said the jump in price is due to the perfect storm of a supply crunch, a weak Canadian dollar, and a surging demand. Additionally, two of four Washington State refineries are closed for maintenance.

It was nearly the perfect night.
Brock Boeser made just one mistake.
It came late. He had already won the game. And your hearts.
He had three goals, four points and one question:
Just how special can this player be?
Of course, there was another question. It mattered quite a bit less.
Will he ever have a chance at a four-goal game again?
I’m guessing he will, by the way.
But tonight, he would have happened if he did what he does best, shoot.
He chose instead to pass.

So, in his five decades in the CFL, the old Lion has faced more than one ordeal which distracted his team from their stated purpose, and that’s why he isn’t overly concerned about the B.C. Lions’ c -
