Restaurant review: Squamish's The Joinery transitions from greenhouse to popular eatery

Open: Dinners, Wednesday to Monday. Happy hour, 4 to 6 p.m. joinerysquamish.com
When you live in Squamish, you’re no doubt good at roughing it — on mountain bikes, hanging off climbing ropes, on surf boards and on mountain trails. So going to the bathroom in outdoor portables and dining in a former greenhouse (with glass roof) should be a lark. And if the weather’s just fine, there’s an outdoor dining area. -

Classical: Milestone year for Vancouver's Friends of Chamber Music
via vancouversun.comThe saga of Vancouver’s Friends of Chamber Music is a real homegrown success story, and one of the more exotic ones, as well.
“Old Vancouver” had an orchestra (the VSO is poised to celebrate its centenary), plenty of choirs, and the occasional impresario willing to speculate on the public’s fickle enthusiasm for big name soloists. What it conspicuously lacked in the years right after the Second World War was both opera and chamber music.
