Former Kamloops councillor Ken Christian walked away with the win in a byelection Saturday in which only 21 per cent of registered voters marked a ballot.
Christian, who was required to take a three-month hiatus from council to run for the mayorship, said the time away gave him a different look at the goings-on at city hall.

Metro Vancouver has more mansions than any other Canadian city
via vancouversun.comThere may be no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation, but that’s not stopping sociologist Nathan Lauster.
The associate professor at the University of B.C. recently examined how Metro Vancouverites use their bedrooms in order to find solutions to the local housing crisis.
Using Statistics Canada data, Lauster counted 459,994 extra bedrooms in homes across Metro, estimating that about one-fifth of all bedrooms aren’t occupied. (For his study, he allotted one bedroom -

Better Canucks forward depth means no room for Desjardins favourites Chaput and Megna
via theprovince.comIt was called a rebuild and then a transition by the braintrust.
How much stock you can place in either assessment was brought a little bit more into focus Sunday morning when the Vancouver Canucks placed forwards Jayson Megna and Michael Chaput and goaltender Richard Bachman on waivers. If they clear by Monday at 9 a.m., they’ll be assigned to the American Hockey League affiliate Utica Comets.

Latest Canucks cuts see Megna, Chaput, Bachman on waivers
via theprovince.comThe Canucks are almost at their opening night roster.
The team put forwards Jayson Megna and Michael Chaput and goalie Richard Bachman on waivers Sunday morning. If they aren’t claimed by another team before Monday morning, they will be assigned to the Utica Comets.
It’s undoubtedly a disappointing development for both Megna and Chaput, who spent most of the 2016-17 season with the Canucks. They were originally tabbed to be key players in the AHL for the Comets but early injuries for -

via vancouversun.comB.C. should follow California’s lead as it transitions to a legal cannabis environment and authorizes retail marijuana sales next July.
Both jurisdictions are pot-culture capitals and are dealing with too-tight deadlines and too many nuanced problems to properly meet expectations.
