Vancouver police are investigating what they are calling the suspicious deaths of two people at a residence in the area of West 64th Avenue and Hudson Street.Detectives from VPD’s homicide unit have been called to the scene to take over the investigation.

Harold Backer was not in B.C. provincial court during a hearing Wednesday in Victoria, but his lawyer entered the not guilty plea on his client’s behalf.
Backer has elected to be tried by judge alone in a trial that is expected to last up to two weeks.

Pedestrian dies following hit and run in Surrey

The 28-year-old man was unconscious suffering head injuries when he was found lying in the street by a passerby near the 14300 block of 92nd Avenue at 7:20 a.m.

According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the wildfires around Williams Lake caused close to $100 million in damage to insured homes, vehicles and businesses, while the Elephant Hill wildfire caused more than $27 million in damage to insured property.
Nearly 50,000 people were also evacuated throughout the summer, relocated across B.C. while crews on the ground fought the fires.
