via vancouversun.comA crew from a B.C. ferry sprung into action Sunday morning and rescued six people from the cold waters near Mayne Island.
B.C. Ferries’ Deborah Marshall said the coast guard requested help from the Spirit of Vancouver Island at about 9:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a small runabout sinking.
Four people from the boat were in the water. Two kayakers who went to help the boaters flipped their kayaks and they were also in the water.

Wildfire east of Kelowna still out of control, area remains evacuated
via vancouversun.comA wildfire burning about 20 kilometres east of Kelowna remains out of control.
The fire, which has forced about 1,000 people from their homes, is about 4.6 square kilometres in size, said Navi Saini with the B.C. Wildfire Service. While that is an increase over previous estimates, that is attributed better mapping rather than growth.
The fire that started Thursday is not contained but Saini described it as a smouldering ground fire with some open flames.
