Drs. George Carson and Wendy Levinson: Ob-gyns target reductions in unnecessary, pricey care that may harm patients
via theprovince.com
Here is, perhaps, a surprising fact: Birth is the most common reason that Canadian women are hospitalized each year.
There were over 350,000 babies born in hospitals across the country last year. And the most common in-hospital surgery is caesarean-section delivery, with about 100,000 performed annually. So obstetricians and gynecologists provide a lot of patient care, both for pregnancies and other aspects of women’s health.
Here’s another fact: A recent report from the Canadian Ins -

The Morning Skate, July 4: Try not to feel wound so tight
via theprovince.com
Last night at the Nat, legendary pitcher Gaylord Perry made an appearance.
Note, it’s pronounced Gay-lerd, not Gay-Lord like most of us assume.
He is most famous for his spit ball.At least, he had batters think that was what he was throwing. He wasn’t caught throwing one until his 21st season, in 1982.
Also notable: manager Alvin Dark is said to have remarked in 1963, Perry’s second big league season, that “they’d put a man on the moon before that man hit a home run -

My father passed away a year ago, and I’ve come to learn that he kept every piece of paper and correspondence that came his way. The other day, I was going through some things with my mom and I came across a form letter from my Grade 5 teacher addressed to my parents.
It was dated May 1, 1981. “Parent, It has become necessary to inform you of a problem (my name inserted) is causing at school.” It went on to say that the students are supposed to eat lunch in their classrooms wit -
Letters: Just ban one-time use cups and the whining will quickly fade
via theprovince.com
Why can’t Vancouver ban one-time use cups? Why are we again putting convenience before the environment? Let’s make our children proud. Let’s not put money and convenience before their future.
Try us. Ban single-use container and watch how fast habits change. Raise the bar. It’s time. Honestly, this is getting ridiculous. If we want take out, then we can bring our reusable containers. If we want coffee, we can keep some mugs in the car.
Seriously? Who are we worried about
