When Phillip James Tallio went to jail 34 years ago for killing a child in Bella Coola, he left behind the world he knew and everyone important to him — including one special person still a few months from being born.
The RCMP arrested Tallio, at age 17 in April 1983, for the murder of a 22-month-old girl in a remote First Nations community on B.C.’s central coast. At the time, Tallio and his 14-year-old girlfriend Theresa Hood had just found out she was pregnant with their child.
