With its more than 150 residents relocated to new homes, the Balmoral Hotel has been deemed an active construction zone by the city of Vancouver.

The building’s owners, the Sahota family, have been given a July 14 deadline to complete repairs to stabilize the building.

Letters: Richmond sign anger linked to ‘thinly disguised resentment’
via theprovince.com
Richmond council has unwisely stuck its nose into the Chinese-sign issue again, as columnist Gordon Clark rightly noted.
I’m befuddled why people become exorcised over this issue. As a frequent visitor to Richmond, I find there are many stores that provide services in English (and Mandarin or Cantonese) and are thusly rewarded with my patronage. I infer that a business that doesn’t provide information in English neither needs my money, nor requires my patronage to succeed. -
Daily Poll: Does the speaker issue spell trouble for the NDP-Green alliance?
via vancouversun.com
Postmedia columnist Mike Smyth reported Wednesday that the NDP-Green power-sharing agreement is off to a shaky start.
At issue, Smyth said, was Green Leader Andrew Weaver’s concern that the New Democrats had yet to convince a Liberal MLA to serve as speaker in an NDP-controlled legislature.
“The NDP essentially made us understand that they had been in conversation with some B.C. Liberals and that it would be no problem for them to find a speaker from within the B.C. Liberal ranks,&rd -

Metro Vancouver's market heating up again, despite foreign-buyer tax
via vancouversun.com
B.C. real estate prices are on the rise and demand continues to outstrip supply, which the NDP says shows the foreign-buyer tax that was announced almost a year ago wasn’t enough to cool the market.
On Tuesday, the B.C. Real Estate Association reported that in May, residential sales in B.C. were down almost eight per cent from last year, but the average sale price was $752,536, up 4.2 per cent.
The trend in Metro Vancouver mirrors that of the rest of the province: sales are down, but the c -

The newsrooms were previously located on multiple floors of the 28-storey, Class-A Granville Square tower at 200 Granville -
Mike Smyth: There could be trouble brewing in NDP-Green paradise
via theprovince.com
Victoria, we have a problem.
The NDP-Green power-sharing agreement appeared to show cracks on Tuesday over the crucial issue of who will serve as the speaker in a minority parliament.
That was evident in a conversation I had with B.C. Green party Leader Andrew Weaver, who said the New Democrats assured him in negotiations they would convince a Liberal to serve as speaker in an NDP-controlled legislature.
“The NDP essentially made us understand that they had been in conversation with some B -
