Tenants of the Balmoral, a single-room occupancy hotel in the downtown eastside, have occupied Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson’s City Hall office.
In a statement, the tenants, who have complained about “disgusting” conditions at the hotel, say they will not leave City Hall until they get copies of all Balmoral engineer reports and a guarantee that the city will pay for emergency repairs while not displacing tenants during the renovations.
