Controversial push for all girls hockey in B.C. 'not a good idea'
via vancouversun.com
VANCOUVER — A push to grow girls hockey on Vancouver Island is being criticized by some parents, but one advocate says the controversial move is the only way to save the sport from attrition.
The Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association has put forward a resolution that would require all girls play on a female-only team. Any girls who want to play on a coed team as well would be allowed to do so and would pay a single registration fee for both teams, said Jim Humphrey, the associat -
Yukon families feel hope, anxiety ahead of first MMIW inquiry hearings
via vancouversun.com
Diane Lilley waited nearly two decades for a suspect to be arrested in her sister’s murder, only to sit through a trial where she says her beloved sibling Tina Washpan was often referred to as simply “the hooker.”
The dismissive treatment of her sister in death mirrored the way she was treated in life, said Lilley. The siblings from Carmacks, Yukon, were separated in the ’60s Scoop, when indigenous children were taken from their parents and placed in non-indigenous homes. -

SQUAMISH, B.C. – There’s an antidote to your adventure envy, and it lies just beyond Vancouver city limits.
Let your friends and family ride unicycles backwards through Croatia, milk yaks for artisan cheese in Tibet, or do ice-floe yoga with the penguins in Antarctica. You’re going to the edge, too – for 24 hours and less than the globetrotting set spends at the currency exchange.
Let’s get started then:
