• Watch: Alberta Party wants building codes amended to help forest industry

If elected, the Alberta Party would amend the province’s building code to allow for taller timber buildings as well as create a research institute, leader Stephen Mandel announced Friday morning.
The current height restriction for wood-framed buildings is six storeys under the Alberta Building Code, and Mandel said the province is falling behind other jurisdictions. A timber tower in B.C. constructed in 2017 stands 18-storeys tall.
  • Watch: Ken Hitchcock hopes for a future helping the Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton Oilers head coach Ken Hitchcock, speaking with reporters outside of an optional skate at Rogers Place Friday, spoke about being in a unique situation where coaches were in limbo given the ongoing changes in the team’s organization. • NDP promises to reduce prescription cost burden on seniors if elected

Rachel Notley pledged that a re-elected NDP government would cover the prescription costs for the majority of Alberta seniors.
The move, which would cover prescription co-payments for seniors with incomes less than $75,000 per year, would cost the province about $110 million per year.
“Right now there are seniors in Alberta who are actually forced to choose between filling their prescriptions or filling their fridges,” said Notley at a Sherwood Park news conference Friday. “Tha
