UCP candidate for Calgary-Mountain View Jeremy Wong provided a blast from the past to voters when he used an old Calgary skyline in campaign materials.
Wong recently replaced former UCP candidate Caylan Ford, who quit the race after online posts surfaced where she suggested white supremacist terrorists are treated unfairly.
Wong’s campaign flyers show a dated downtown Calgary skyline.
So Jeremy Wong left this on my doorstep (Calgary-Mountainview), notice anything wrong? https://t.co/7MQr3l

Trade away or buy out Andrej Sekera? No, Edmonton Oilers should hold on to cagey veteran
Edmonton Oilers fans and bloggers are already in next year country, debating what the team should do in the off-season, with one notion repeated quite often, that the team should look to bring in a top-pairing d-man and perhaps move out a Kris Russell, a Darnell Nurse or a Andrej Sekera.
NHL pundits have also joined into such talk, with former NHL GM Brian Burke recently saying the Oil’s top priority is to clean out cap space so a top pairing d-man can be acquired: “If you look at th -
Man accused of smuggling guns can be extradited to U.S., judge rules
An Alberta judge has ruled there is enough of a case to extradite a man accused of participating in schemes to smuggle handguns from the United States to Canada.
In a hearing in Edmonton Tuesday, Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Douglas Mah found there is sufficient evidence to warrant Colby Stephan Skolseg being committed for extradition to the U.S.
Skolseg’s fate is now in the hands of the federal justice minister, who ultimately decides whether Canadian citizens should be su -
Three to See Thursday: Jom Comyn at Common; Therese Greenwood launch; Apollo 11
Jom Comyn: Jom Comyn’s human name is Jim, but he won’t bite you if you call him Jom. More importantly, he’s one of Edmonton’s finest singer-songwriters, with a voice like a honey waterslide full of stuck and sleepy snuggle bears. The guy is a magic antidote to all the yelling back and forth that is today’s Alberta. Opener Aladean Kheroufi, meanwhile, Canadian by way of Algeria, writes songs that are Idiosyncratic, goofy and devastating. With a glass half full stubbo -
Alberta's election commissioner levies $9,000 in new fines related to Callaway campaign
Alberta’s election commissioner has slapped a political donor with $9,000 in fines related to the Jeff Callaway campaign, which has been at the centre of an ongoing UCP political scandal.
Happy Mann, a former Wildrose candidate and former UCP nomination candidate, was fined $3,000 for three separate offences Wednesday.
One penalty was for contributing to Callaway’s campaign with “funds given or furnished by another person,” and the two other fines were for providing other -
City unveils first-phase home builders for Blatchford development
Plans for the first homes to be built in the long-awaited green Blatchford development were revealed Wednesday.
The first four companies that have signed land deals to build a total of 43 townhouses on the former downtown city airport land were announced at a press conference in a brewery across the street from the southern edge of the development.

Review: Roots-rocker Shakey Graves wows, woos the Winspear crowd
“It’s crazy seeing you folks here in this magnificent concert hall,” Shakey Graves said upon taking the Winspear Centre stage Tuesday night, marveling up at the rafters before laying out the evening’s plan.
“We’re going to do some covers tonight; there are music stands all over this building, so plenty of room for backup lyrics,” he noted, eliciting several whoops and yelps from the sold-out crowd before reminding us, “Come on this is a concert hal -
Nathaniel Rateliff, Rheostatics, Aloe Blacc, Sheila E at Interstellar Rodeo July 26-28
Back for its eighth year with an enticing and truly eclectic lineup including Rheostatics, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats and Prince collaborator Sheila E., Interstellar Rodeo once again walks the talk of its sponsor-label Six Shooter Records’ mantra: “life is too short to listen to shitty music.”
Rheostatics — beloved by the late Gord Downie, who played Interstellar in 2014 — are the pride of Etobicoke and one of the nation’s most influential indie -

NDP signs vandalized with swastikas, crude language in central Edmonton
Edmonton city police are investigating after several election signs were vandalized in central Edmonton.
The targeted signs in support of NDP Leader Rachel Notley and NDP candidate David Shepherd, who is running for re-election in the constituency of Edmonton City-Centre, were found early Wednesday spray-painted in black with swastikas and crude language.
“As a member of Rachel Notley’s team and the NDP candidate for Edmonton City-Centre, I am proud to represent a positive campaign t -
UCP to unveil rural crime strategy: Here are some fast facts on the issue
United Conservative Leader Jason Kenney is set to announce his party’s rural crime strategy Wednesday morning.
The NDP government has been focused on rural crime for more than a year.
Here’s some background to help frame the policy announcement:
CRIME FIGHTING SPENDING: Budget 2018 contained $10 million for a rural crime action plan to target repeat and chronic offenders and target the root causes of crime. The vast majority of that went to 39 more RCMP officers and 40 civilian posit -
Man charged after girls allegedly groped at Edmonton public pool
A 53-year-old man has been charged after three girls reported they had been groped in a southwest Edmonton public pool.
On March 3, at approximately 3 p.m. the girls reported a man had grabbed them in the lazy river at the Terwillegar Recreation Centre, said Edmonton police in a news release Wednesday.
They reported the man was alone in the pool, wearing black swim trunks and reflective goggles. He was also holding a yellow pool noodle around his waist.
Police said the man was identified and arr -

The companies who will build the first homes on the long-awaited green Blatchford development are expected to be announced Wednesday.
The Blatchford development is intended to turn the 217-hectare former airport into an environmentally sustainable community with up to 30,000 residents over 25 years.

Keith Gerein: Kenney walks risky tightrope with GSA policy
Ever since Jason Kenney entered Alberta’s political stage two years ago, he’s been kept on his toes catering to competing interests within the “big tent” conservative movement.
The balancing act has been evident in his grassroots guarantee of taking policy direction from UCP faithful while also vowing to overrule ideas he sees as destructive to the party.
It’s been visible in his copious platform announcements, which have included reasonable, well-researched ideas t -
Edmonton weather: 30 per cent chance of snow, 100 per cent chance of melting
A look at today’s Edmonton weather by Environment Canada.
Wednesday morning temperatures at the Edmonton Blatchford station measured 1.1 C with 10 winds of the north, northwest.
Yes, we may see some snow this morning, but I’m not counting my eggs nor my chickens. Thirty per cent his hardly a sure thing and even if it does snow it’ll be gone by tomorrow as temperatures are expected to hold steady in that 6-8 C range for the rest of the week and heading into the we -
Wednesday's letters: Trust those who report potholes
I am puzzled by the way the city responds to reported potholes on its webpage. I just reported a pothole on our street and received a reply that they are going to dispatch a supervisor to inspect my report and check to see if it warrants a repair.
Is this for real? Does the city actually think citizens are sitting at their computers reporting fictitious locations?

Opinion: Doorsteps are a powerful election forum for candidates and voters
In case you are wondering, today is day nine of the 28-day Alberta election campaign. The good, bad and the ugly of Election 2019 are very apparent in the first week — all being amplified on every platform from print, radio, television to everything virtual. The challenge is how will you make your decision in this environment?
In my mind there is absolutely no excuse to miss this opportunity to define your Alberta. It is a privilege, not a right, to govern. Candidates must earn every vote -
Opinion: Alberta election promises on equalization ring hollow
Once more it is election time and, as often happens in provincial elections, a federal dynamic kicks in and parties try to use the federal system to their advantage targeting the government in Ottawa and its policies as the enemy. This leads to all sorts of promises and claims made to gain votes. A recent statement by UCP Leader Jason Kenney is reflective of this tactic.
“If the federal government continues its attacks through the National Energy Board (NEB) and the federal carbon tax, the -

Oil Spills podcast: Nicholson becomes lightning rod for frustrated Oilers fans
Oilers Entertainment Group chief executive officer Bob Nicholson’s recent comments about Edmonton Oilers forward Tobias Rieder — Nicholson blamed Rieder, who hasn’t scored a goal all season, for the team’s failure to secure a playoff spot — turned Nicholson into a lightning rod among many Oilers fans, a figure onto which they turned their frustrations over yet another losing season — 12 of the last 13 of them out of the NHL playoffs.

Elise Stolte: Highway builders warn Alberta heading for a shock as pavement condition slides
If you thought potholes in Edmonton were bad, just wait till you drive some Alberta highways.
Alberta now has a greater share of its highways in “very poor” condition than any other province in Canada. And that’s bad, because Alberta also has more highways than any other province in Canada.
Look at a map. Our highways spin off almost everywhere.
