Star Trek Discovery finally melds its past and present perfectly
The creepy Talosians are back — and this time there’s a dude under the makeup.
And then it happened: Star Trek Discovery didn’t just broadcast the best episode of its own series — If Memory Serves is also up there with the best episodes of Star Trek … period.
(New Eden, earlier this year, is terrific too, as close to feeling like classic Trek as the frenetic, sometimes-uneven new cosmic soap opera had come.)

UCP complaint over deleted government emails 'unsubstantiated': Privacy commissioner
Government and political staffers did nothing wrong when they deleted more than 800,000 emails across several ministries, Alberta’s privacy commissioner Jill Clayton has found.
However, she also found flaws in email practices, including a lack of consistency around the storage of official records.
Clayton’s report, released Tuesday, stems from a complaint made by the official opposition in 2017.
Back when the Wildrose Party was official opposition, it asked for numbers of managerial -

Tuesday's letters: Domtar site not only worrisome brownfield
Re. “Cancer rates near industrial site lead to study,” March 8
If only we could get the same kind of attention to the toxic Osmose site up in Faust, right next to the Lesser Slave Lake. Residents have been concerned about the health risks from this site for decades.
The site is owned by the province of Alberta, and although a partial remediation was done in the 1990s, dioxin levels remain high, about four times higher than the dioxin levels at the Domtar site in Edmonton, and t -
Opinion: Tax hikes putting Western provinces at disadvantage
We’re now in budget season, and with the federal budget less than a week away, we’ll soon know if Canada’s deteriorating tax competitiveness is dealt with in any meaningful way.
The federal Liberal government legislated income tax hikes that took effect in 2016, which — in conjunction with tax hikes at the provincial level across the country — significantly eroded Canada’s competitiveness compared to its economic peers. Unless governments reverse this trend, o -
Editorial: How did Domtar mess happen?
With new confirmation that soil around a former wood-treatment plant in northeast Edmonton contains hazards to health, it’s fitting that the first priority of authorities is to investigate that risk.
To that end, the province will work with federal officials on an epidemiological study around the site to explain the higher-than-expected levels of three types of cancer.
But while the well-being of residents is the most pressing consideration, there are plenty of other questions arising from -

Fallout from short-lived Edmonton police web series The Squad continues with court decision
In 2013, Edmonton police launched an online video series following a group of officers as they patrolled city streets. The hope was that the weekly show, called The Squad, would attract recruits and give Edmontonians an idea of what it’s like to be a cop in the city.

Player grades: Edmonton superstars best Rangers, Oilers move within 5 points of playoff spot

At this point, with just a dozen games left in the season, every game is a must-win for the Edmonton Oilers. But their superstars did what they must do against the New York Rangers, helping to manufacture all three goals as the Edmonton won 3-2 in overtime.

Watch: Edmonton Oilers take out New York Rangers in overtime
Edmonton Oilers head coach Ken Hitchcock argues that after the Oilers beat the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime it shows they are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Coaching staff were looking at their iPads as the players pushed through to overtime, checking the standings of division rivals.
