The owner of a Slave Lake sawmill says he paid nearly $500,000 in carbon taxes in 2018, one day after government staff questioned whether the number was legitimate.

Edmonton Oilers' latest Achilles heel? Giving up goals in bunches
Game Day 64: Oilers at Senators
The Edmonton Oilers need to bounce back, and quickly, from their latest setback, one in which they were pounded 6-2 in Toronto on national TV on Wednesday night. One day later, the Oilers will try to pick up the pieces in the outskirts of Ottawa against a team that has traded away most of its top players this season.
Alas, give or take surviving the Connor McDavid suspension, bouncing back from a setback in something the Oilers have been utterly incapable of doing -

Editorial: Progress on poverty
The number of children living in poverty in Alberta and across much of Canada has fallen dramatically.
It gladdens the heart to know that significantly more kids are going to bed with full stomachs and walking to school in warm clothes. From another perspective, the good news on child poverty restores our faith about governments and what they can accomplish when they set their minds on tackling a serious problem by introducing effective and timely policies.
In this case, the problem isn’t -

Thursday's letters: Private health cherry-picks procedures
Re. “Private health care should be an option,” Letters, Feb. 26
Art Davison mentions that countries with both public and private health-care services have much shorter wait times than Canada.

Player grades: Leafs give Oilers hard lesson in modern NHL hockey
The Toronto Maple Leafs whipped the Edmonton Oilers 6-1, giving Edmonton a lesson in how the modern NHL game is played.
And it’s not played by slow, slow, slow forwards who lack skill. At least it’s not played that way with any success. Yet that’s what the Oilers have plentiful supply right now.
It’s not a recipe for victory. It’s not a recipe to make the playoffs. It’s going to lead to more of the same.
