Three to See Thursday: Malcolm X, RBG and Neil Grahn's Coyote Comedy
Denzel Washington as Malcolm X.
Malcolm X: One of the greatest biographical film ever made, Spike Lee’s epic film stars Denzel Washington as the complicated and ever-evolving civil rights activist as he goes from a two-bit hood to angry political demagogue to, after a trip to Mecca, a man of deeper understanding than almost anyone around him — which made him extremely dangerous to a lot of folks who would rather see him dead. Brilliant score by Terence Blanchard, this is a great -

Jason Kenney calls for Alberta Health Services review
Jason Kenney says a United Conservative government would conduct a performance review of Alberta Health Services within 30 days of taking office.

Watch: Oilers lose 3-2 in a shootout to the Coyotes
The Edmonton Oilers announced about 30 minutes before game time Connor McDavid was ill and would not be playing against the Arizona Coyotes.
After Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored with 11 seconds left and with the net empty tying the game, the Coyotes ended up defeating the Oilers 3-2 in a shootout to move within a point of Minnesota for the final playoff spot. And while the Oilers are now six points back, there’s so many teams to climb over.

Oilers in 60: Oilers suffer another 'tough' loss on home ice
The Edmonton Oilers (24-29-6) suffered another tough defeat on home ice Tuesday as they dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the Arizona Coyotes in the shootout.
It was a tough game. Tough loss.
The Oilers were without their captain Connor McDavid, who missed the game with an illness — tough blow.

Edmonton weather: It's going to be a great day today – squirrel!
A look at today’s Edmonton weather by Environment Canada.
Wednesday morning temperatures at the Edmonton Blatchford station measured -6.3 C with 8 km/h winds out of the northwest contributing to a -10 wind chill.
Waking up to single digit temperatures is basically heaven; what a great way to start to the day. No warming up the car for 15 minutes, no scraping off the windshield, no jacket, toque, gloves, scarves — nothing. Just wake up and go. Fantastic. But like all go -
Wednesday's letters: Brutal crime took toll on victim's spouse
It was with sadness that I saw the obituary for Lesley Miller. She passed suddenly on Feb. 14 at the relatively young age of 73.
I have little doubt that the savage beating of her husband Dougald into a waking coma significantly shortened her life.
Leo Teskey is now responsible to the Miller family for the trauma of both deaths. My condolences to the family in this sad, second loss.

Opinion: Fact-checking Alberta's pipeline ads
As an Alberta-born-and-raised earth scientist who has made a career studying fossil fuels and energy issues, I am dismayed at the bombardment of ads from the Alberta government on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
One ad tells us:
“Canada’s economy loses out on an estimated $80 million dollars in economic benefits every day that the expansion is delayed. Trans Mountain changes that, providing an $80 million-a-day economic boost to our country, supporting thousands of jobs from c -

Education minister does about-face on high school credit clawbacks
Alberta’s education minister has cancelled an $11.3-million clawback from 59 school boards whose students took too many high school credits last year.
Frustrated school board trustees and superintendents said last week they may cancel programs and limit options for high school students after receiving notices earlier this month saying Alberta Education was holding back funding for every student who earned more than 45 credit enrolment units during the 2017-18 school year.

David Staples: Bill C-69 doesn't just kill pipelines, it threatens all Canadian industry
Albertans are more alarmed than other Canadians about Bill C-69, the most ambitious, aggressive and dangerous piece of legislation put forward by the Trudeau government.
This doesn’t make us alarmist or wrong-headed. It means Albertans are ahead of the curve in understanding the industry-killing interplay between federal legislation, well-funded groups that fiercely oppose industrial development, and judicial activism in our courts.A new Abacus poll shows 63 per cent of Canadians believe t -
Player grades: Missing their top star, Edmonton Oilers fight back twice to earn a deserved point
Coyotes 3*, Oilers 2 (SO)
What a weird team Edmonton Oilers are with their goalie on the bench this season. It’s sure happened a lot of times as the Oilers have trailed late in a lot of games. Many times the moment they pull the goalie the puck seems destined for the open cage as if drawn by a powerful magnet, such as last game when they allowed the clinching empty netter just 4 seconds after Mikko Koskinen left the ice surface. In all, they’ve allowed a ghastly 15 goals into their u -

Watch: Beaver Lake Cree Nation rallies in Edmonton for court costs
A rally was held at Sir Winston Churchill Square in downtown Edmonton on Tuesday to support the Beaver Lake Cree Nation and its court case for treaty rights.
In 2008, Beaver Lake Cree Nation launched a case against the provincial and federal governments for permitting unfettered oilsands development on the nation’s traditional territory. This lawsuit is the first ever to challenge and be granted a trial on the cumulative impacts of industrial development. However, the case has been stalled -
Barrhead woman, 76, killed in collision on Highway 18
Barrhead RCMP are investigating after a woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon.

The 76-year-old woman driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Keith Gerein: NDP heads onto unsteady tracks with dubious gamble on crude by rail
For a government that has been trying hard to diversify Alberta’s economy beyond the extraction and selling of oil — not to mention reducing greenhouse gases — Rachel Notley’s NDP administration sure made a big investment in exactly that business Tuesday.
A $3.7-billion investment, to be exact. Money to lease up to 4,400 new rail cars, fill them with Alberta oil, and then ship the resource to refineries in the United States.

Watch: Alberta Premier Rachel Notley unveils crude-by-rail plan
Premier Rachel Notley unveiled the Alberta government’s new rail deal between Canadian Pacific Railway, Canadian National Railway and the Government of Alberta to move more oil by rail during a news conference in Edmonton on Tuesday. The agreement will see an estimated 4,400 rail cars move up to 120,000 barrels per day by 2020.
