Five-year ban handed to Alberta Party leader result of 'overreach,' says Kenney
UCP leader Jason Kenney is calling the five-year election ban placed on Alberta Party leader Stephen Mandel a disproportionate sanction that is now forcing Mandel to go to court.
“I support Stephen’s judicial appeal of his disqualification,” said Kenney in a Sunday statement, arguing that the stiff penalty is the result of government overreach.
Elections Alberta listed Mandel as ineligible to run until 2023 after he missed a deadline for financial paperwork.

If the Oilers end up buyers at the deadline, which Edmonton top prospects are likely on the Most Wanted List of other NHL teams
The NHL trading deadline is approaching. And whether the Oilers will be buyers or sellers by that time is still unclear.
Lets be optimistic and agree that the Edmonton Oilers will still be right in the hunt for a Western Conference Wild Card spot by that time. Most teams willing to give up what the Oilers may need are probably not playoff bound themselves. They are probably just as unlikely to want to take on salary. Or the contract of an older player. Elise Stolte: Tampon donation drive highlights damage of menstrual taboo
The woman was begging for money, same as every day. But this time, as Scarlet Bjornson reached to find some change, she asked the woman why.
The answer was both mundane and shocking: she wanted alcohol but needed tampons.
“I had never, ever thought of that,” said Bjornson, at that time a real estate agent living in Mill Woods. Bjornson went to her car, gave the woman her emergency stash of menstrual products, and that evening started planing a donation drive.
