A 52-year-old man who died on the sidewalk in north Edmonton after multiple calls to police about gunshots may be the city’s third homicide case of the year.
Officers found Enzo Campoli suffering injuries outside a Mayliewan house near 77 Street and 166 Avenue around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, police said in a Thursday release.
Homicide detectives were called in and police are releasing his name in an effort to generate tips in the case.

Bassist Sean Croal performs jazz as international language
Heading into a brand new year it seems appropriate to consider a musician from the next generation — a fresh, young player with a surprising story and loads of talent, just starting his career.
At 20, Sean Croal is not yet finished his college studies but it seems as if he was marked for music since childhood. His piano-teaching mother and an uncle are also grads of MacEwan, where the bassist is currently enrolled in his third year, so the idea of making music has been part of his life fro -
10 things to do in Edmonton this week: Macbeth, Ric Flair, and Nadine Kellman
Macbeth
January is a chilling time in Edmonton, so why not lean into it by going to see one of Shakespeare’s most chilling plays? Malachite Theatre makes good use of the interior of Holy Trinity for their production of Macbeth, with noted UK director Benjamin Blyth at the helm. A crew of Alberta actors are taking part in this classic tale of guilt, revenge, murder, and madness, among them Sam Jeffrey as Macduff, Danielle LaRose as Lady Macbeth, and Byron Martin in the title role.

Thursday's letters: NHL referees need better training
With 31 teams in the NHL, there are too many inexperienced officials. The quality of officiating has not kept up to the expansion of the league.
The qualities of a good official are good judgement and consistency. These attributes are seriously lacking in today’s NHL. When the NHL went to a two-referee system, this opened the door to questionable judgement and consistency.
You seldom see both referees calling a penalty at the same time. Further, sometimes the referee at centre ice wil -
Keith Gerein: Beautiful Bighorn deserves better than ugly political games
Alberta’s Bighorn Country on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains is one of the most exquisite sites in all of Canada, if not the world.
It’s a hidden gem of sorts, a near pristine paradise of wilderness prized by First Nations communities, hikers, campers, hunters, off-roaders, birdwatchers and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds.
Not to mention the deer, bears and mountain goats that also call the area home.
Unfortunately, throughout human history, such highly valued places of beau -

Education minister asks public religious schools for employment agreements
Alberta Education Minister David Eggen has asked some publicly funded religious schools to provide copies of employment contracts to review for potentially discriminatory language.

Old Strathcona cannabis zoning battle heads to province's Appeal Court

Darnell Nurse and Matt Benning must step up for Edmonton Oilers to push into playoffs
Goaltending is the make-or-break factor for most National Hockey League teams, but next in line is the team’s defensive core.
In Edmonton’s last ten games, that defensive group has let in the following number of goals against: 7, 0, 4, 1, 4, 7, 4, 6, 4, 4.
It’s extremely difficult to win in the NHL if a team lets in three goals, let alone four.
Six or seven against? Ouch!
Little wonder that the Oilers have won just two of ten.

'The market is tough': A record number of homes for sale means 2019 will be another rough year for sellers
A record-high number of homes for sale made Edmonton’s real estate market challenging for buyers and sellers in 2018 and the Realtors Association of Edmonton predicts further drops in sales and average prices in 2019.
