Press Gallery podcast 256: The Alberta Politics Complaints edition
In the first episode of 2019, the Press Gallery podcast team takes a look at the ream of official complaints being filed inside the world of Alberta politics.

Edmonton weather: We could tell you, but you know
A look at today’s Edmonton weather by Environment Canada.
Friday morning temperatures at the Edmonton Blatchford station that measured -2 C with 9 km/h winds out of the east making it feel more like -5 C.
There looks to be clouds in our forecast, lots of clouds for the next four days. Nothing too cold, just clouds. Today we’re looking at a high of -1 C and 30 per cent chance of snow with wind gusting up to 15km/h at times. Later the temps will dip to a low of -6 C and -
Friday's letters: Footbridge lacks proper access
Few projects better exemplify the ineptitude of our city administration than the Fort Edmonton footbridge.
The city spent almost $30 million building this admittedly beautiful showcase of a bridge. But the city neglected to provide any safe means of accessing the bridge from the neighbourhoods on the Riverbend side. Currently, pedestrians trying to access the bridge must walk down Whitemud Road — a narrow, winding road with no sidewalk and limited sight lines due to dense brush.

'I'm going to have an empty chair beside me': Church friend remembers men killed in fire at Edmonton group home
A friend who mentored one of the men killed in a fire at an Edmonton group home on Christmas Eve will remember him for his enthusiastic singing and his kind manner.
Gord Dykstra said Billy Beloin, who died following a fire at the group home where he lived with two other men and a care worker, was his friend for about 10 years.
“He loved to sing,” Dykstra said of Beloin, who he mentored one-on-one at a west Edmonton church’s program for adults with disabilities.

Elise Stolte: ‘I was exhausted today.’ Ice rink makers unsung heroes at community leagues
I’m not a poet. But if I was, I’d write an ode to the community rink maker.
It takes 100 hours a month on average to maintain an outdoor ice rink. That’s hard work in the bitter cold. When temperatures plunge and most of us huddle indoors, that’s when the rink makers haul out the water hoses. There’s nothing like water vapour to make a cold job colder.
And many of those cold fingers belong to volunteers.
Seriously, Edmonton has a really good thing going. Using prope -

David Staples: Edmonton heads into a dangerous 2019
The year 2019 is a dangerous one for Edmonton.
The city is strongly represented at both the provincial and federal levels, but a combination of anti-NDP sentiment in the rest of Alberta and anti-Trudeau Liberal sentiment throughout Alberta could change that dynamic.
The spring provincial election could see a takeover by budget-cutting Jason Kenney of the United Conservative Party but with little Edmonton representation in cabinet if this city sticks to Rachel Notley’s NDP or moves to Steph -

Player grades, Games 31-40: Edmonton Oilers find themselves out of their depth after blueline injuries
Three and a half weeks ago, Oil Country was enjoying an extended honeymoon with sure-to-be Hall of Fame coach Ken Hitchcock. The Edmonton native had brought a breath of fresh air to the perennially-struggling Oilers and distinctly changed the narrative framing the situation with his unique mixture of sunshine, smoke-blowing, and encyclopaedic hockey knowledge.
I was myself experiencing a sunny disposition when writing the last segment review after Game 30, which happily coincided exactly with Hi -
