Drake Caggiula is back, Oscar Klefbom on the shelf, so how to adjust?
This in from the Oilers: “The Oilers have activated forward Drake Caggiula from Injured Reserve in addition to placing defenceman Oscar Klefbom on IR & assigning forward Cooper Marody to the Condors.”
My takeThe Oilers have two winger/centres in Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nuget-Hopkins that they can’t do without. The rest of them? They are essentially interchangeable pieces at this point, all of them providing some pluses and some minuses if they’re in the line up. There -

More than $1 million worth of drugs including close to nine kilograms of cocaine have been seized by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ organized crime and gang unit.
Officers raided three homes in the Hogdson, Terwillegar and Mill Woods neighbourhoods late last month, which led to the arrest of three men on Tuesday. Collectively they are facing more than 20 charges.
As well as the cocaine, officers seized about nine kilograms of cocaine buffing agent, cannabis resin, a small qua -
Alberta midwives granted ability to induce labour, administer contraceptives under new rules
Alberta midwives will be able to prescribe drugs to induce labour, administer contraceptives and give patients vaccines under new regulations announced Wednesday.
“It’s about making sure … your midwife can give you the full range of supports that will help you and your pregnancy,” said Health Minister Sarah Hoffman at a news conference held at Lucina Centre, a birthing facility in Edmonton’s west end.
It means patients will be able to go to midwives for access to p -

Police-reported fraud cases in Edmonton continue to climb year-over-year peaking last year at close to 7,000 cases, new police data released Wednesday shows.
Over a five-year period between 2013 and 2017 fraud numbers rose 89 per cent from 2,689 to 6,965 with cases of identity fraud and identity theft more than doubling.
“Front counter staff at several EPS divisions noticed an increase of reports of fraud and identity theft,” Edmonton Police Service Const. Kyle Pepper said in an rele -

In a world devastated by atomic warfare, two heroes have arisen.

Oilers in 60: Sometimes when you lose Oscar Klefbom you lose Oscar Klefbom
The Edmonton Oilers racked up their fourth win a row with a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday.
But we lost Oscar Klefbom.
Oilers goaltender Mikko Koskinen continued his stellar play between the pipes stopping 39 of 43 shots and really keeping the Oilers in this one early on.
But we lost Oscar Klefbom.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins potted home two goals and added an assist as he continues to tear it up this year as one of the Oilers’ most valuable players.
But we lost Oscar Klefbom.

10 things to do in Edmonton this week: Oh! Christmas Tree, Lutra Lutra, and The Willows
Oh! Christmas Tree
There are two types of people in the world: Beatles vs. Stones fans, Asterix vs. Tintin readers, but also those who love Christmas and those who hate it. In Conni Massing’s Oh! Christmas Tree the Yuletide season divides newly married couple Algar and Lucy, who couldn’t be further apart on their feelings for the holiday season, especially when it comes to the Christmas tree. Player grades: Edmonton Oilers score early, hang on late, but lose Klefbom
Oilers 6, Avalanche 4
The final buzzer took its sweet time coming in the Mile High City, but when it finally buzzed a tired group of Edmonton Oilers found themselves still on top of a 6-4 decision over the Avalanche.
The most consequential action took place in a middle frame that saw Edmonton’s Big Three strike four times in a seven-mionute span as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins connected twice, then Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl sandwiched a single tally by Colorado ace Mikko Rantanen to stretch -

St. Albert-raised dancer Viveiros back from Montreal with his own solo
Exploring contemporary dance is one thing, but it takes a special kind of courage to do it alone.
Working solo has been a recurring focus among Montreal dance great Paul-André Fortier‘s many endeavours. Now, at age 70, he’s ready to retire but he’s going out solo. This weekend Fortier’s final two performances of Solo 70 happen here as a presentation of Brian Webb Dance Company.
The dance master never guessed his solo projects would go so far.

Elise Stolte: Honour dead children with real solutions for preventing domestic violence
Fragile men. “Parasitic” because they draw their sense of well-being and self-worth from a relationship with their intimate partner. That self-worth is like “the thinnest pane of glass,” says Ian Wheeliker, who worked with thousands of men convicted of domestic violence during his career. That glass shatters and turns to rage the moment love is questioned.
Edmonton saw another tragic case of what’s alleged to be domestic violence last week — two young -
David Staples: Alberta separatism will rise unless Canada gets it right on pipelines
Never before have I heard so many Albertans bitterly rant against the province’s deal in Canada.
It’s now common for Albertans on social media to raise the issue of separation. There’s no official separatist party, but if other provinces continue to enjoy tens of billions in benefits that annually flow from Alberta’s oil economy, yet refuse to allow necessary pipeline infrastructure, the anger and alarm in Alberta will explode into a populist movement.

Catholic schools in Hardisty, Rundle Heights eyed for closure and consolidation
Dipping enrolment at St. Gabriel Elementary School is once again prompting the Edmonton Catholic school board to consider closing the Hardisty-area school.
The board also voted Tuesday to consider amalgamating St. Jerome Elementary and St. Nicholas Junior High schools into a newly constructed K-9 school.

Playground zone rollbacks to begin over winter school break
City crews will begin ripping out or modifying playground zones over the holiday school break.
City council passed a bylaw Tuesday approving changes to 26 of the more than 400 playground zones across the city in response to resident concerns about newly minted playground zones with 30 km/h speed limits that just didn’t make sense given road design in those areas.
Low-speed zones were first implemented in 2014 around elementary schools. In 2017, city council voted to expand the zones to jun -
Number of opioid overdose deaths may be plateauing: Alberta Health report
Nearly 500 people died due to fentanyl overdoses in the first three quarters of 2018, but it’s possible Alberta has entered a plateau phase with fewer deaths on the horizon, says a provincial report.
The latest data released Tuesday found there were 158 fentanyl-related deaths in the third quarter ending Sept. 30. That’s down from the 169 and 167 deaths reported in the first and second quarters respectively.
