Residents of Leduc are overwhelmingly in favour of cracking down on owners of cats that attack humans, after a number of complaints came forward in 2017.
The city is moving to amend its animal bylaw by adding a fine provision for cat attacks, in part based on the results of public consultation and an online survey that received over 1,200 responses.
“We did have a couple cat attacks,” Cameron Chisholm, Leduc manager of RCMP administration and enforcement services, said Friday. &ldquo

Opinion: Keep Catholic schools for the sake of students
The Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta has recently launched an initiative invitingly named “Together for Students” advocating for a single public school system — that is to say, for ending the separate Catholic school system. Regrettably, a vocal minority subscribes to this idea, often because of a lack of information, and so a few points need to be made in the public conversation. The question is not, as the PSBAA might put it, “why should we fund Cathol -
Saturday's letters: Publicize public skiing at private clubs
Re. “Royal Mayfair the city’s best-kept ski secret,” Elise Stolte, Dec. 7
What a shame that both the Royal Mayfair and the Highlands Golf Course choose to be quiet about the availability of their lands for public use. Are they forgetting that as a lease-holder they do not own the property?
City staff, who represent us, did not know or were choosing to be quiet about it.
They even go as far as not allowing skiers to use their washroom facilities if you’re not a member. Wil -

Player grades: McDavid, Draisaitl run amok as Edmonton Oilers tame Wild
Wild 2, Oilers 7
Edmonton Oilers finally found their finishing touch on Friday night, exploding for three goals in the first ten minutes to drive former Oiler and current nemesis Devan Dubnyk from the cage, then adding three more in the final ten to run away with a 7-2 win over Minnesota Wild.
In between times things got a little dicey at times with the visitors spending an awful lot of time in Edmonton’s end of the ice, but Cam Talbot had the answers at critical times, rejecting at least -

Watch: Oilers demolish the Wild at Rogers Place
The Oilers opened up offensively in the third period against Minnesota on Friday night at Rogers Place by scoring four unanswered goals.
The Oilers won for the fifth time in six games, improving to 6-2-1 under Ken Hitchcock and moving to within one point of a playoff spot with a 7-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
They scored three quick goals in the first period, withstood the ensuing response in the second and then, when it looked like the Wild might be coming back to life, scored four times -
Keith Gerein: Notley gets 'elbows up' with first ministers, but help on oil crisis remains elusive
Back in the fall of 2015, a little over 1,000 days ago, Premier Rachel Notley was the fresh-faced newcomer at the table as Canada’s first ministers gathered in Ottawa.
The world had a distinctly progressive feel to it.
Barack Obama was still in the White House then, Justin Trudeau had just been elected prime minister, and the federal government was preparing for the consequential Paris climate change talks.
The major theme of that 2015 first ministers meeting was on the need to step up Can -

Terwillegar expressway, velodrome among spending approved in city budget
City council approved spending $101 million toward upgrading Terwillegar Drive to an expressway Friday, along with a slew of other major building projects
The plan to convert the southwest roadway into a freeway dates back to its initial construction in the 1980s. The switch to an expressway plan was concocted during consultations earlier this year.
“The proposed expressway approach is less infrastructure intensive. It moves away from ramps and overpasses and concrete trenches, and moves t -

Watch: New system allows airport customers to speed up security process
