We found out what a superstar-less Edmonton Oilers team is like, and it wasn’t pretty when Connor McDavid sat out his team’s game on the road against the Dallas Stars when he fell ill.
While it was just one game, short of expecting McDavid to be the ultimate iron-man, illness and injuries do happen, and the Oilers certainly looked like they were running on a lower-octane fuel minus him. What it did was magnify the team’s current lack of depth on the wings.

Three to See Wednesday: Stormy peaks, Ed the Sock and The Great Gatsby
Mountain of Storms: Before they were magnates of the outdoors, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and The North Face’s co-founder Doug Tompkins were true dirtbags. In 1968, Chouinard, Tompkins and a group of three friends set off in an old van to a then-obscure destination: the eponymous Patagonia region. Along the way, these five friends stopped only to eat, sleep, ski, climb and surf. Amazingly, they chronicled the entire adventure on a 16-mm Bolex camera. Mountain of Storms has inspired a -

By Cara RoszellJasper Place High School
Homer’s classic tale The Odyssey, brought to new heights by playwright Mary Zimmerman, is reinvented once more by Louis St. Laurent. Originally published by Zimmerman in 2003, The Odyssey details the hopeful story of Odysseus — a man with a mission to find his way home and reconnect with his loving wife and son. Though our hero toils 20 long years, he eventually returns triumphant to Ithaca. However, he finds that his home is not the one he lef -

Tuesday's letters: Gov't intervention goes both ways
It is a naive and short-term fix to invite the provincial government to intervene in what is otherwise a competitive market for the exploration and development of our province’s energy resources.
If prices are low and some companies seek short-term relief through production cuts, then they must be prepared to also accept government direction for production increases when prices are deemed “too high.”
What made Alberta great is equal opportunity, ingenuity and willingness to wei -
Keith Gerein: Alberta's oil price alliance a rare moment of political harmony
Christmas lights have been threaded through the trees around the legislature, ready to be turned on Tuesday evening.
Hanukkah festivities have already begun, kick-started with a celebration Sunday that had the grounds filled with Hebrew music.
And snow has finally arrived in abundance, giving everything a postcard perfect appearance.

Player grades: McDavid falls ill, Edmonton Oilers show the symptoms in loss to Stars
Oilers 1, Stars 4
The bad news started early when the Edmonton Oilers learned they would be minus superstar forward Connor McDavid in Dallas Monday, sidelined with an illness. In fact, both of their goal scorers from their last game had to miss this one, as Ryan Spooner also was in sick bay. The short staffed squad that remained was a rag tag crew of 11 forwards, 7 defencemen, and a whole lot of mix and match.
To their credit the Oilers came up with a pretty game effort, carrying the play for st -
