The province will make changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Code to look after the feet of Alberta workers and put safety over style by banning mandatory footwear that could pose health and safety risks.
“Mandatory high heel policies that can put workers at risks for slips, trips and falls and can become a workplace hazard are no longer acceptable,” Alberta Labour Minister Christina Gray announced Friday morning at Cibo Bistro in Oliver. “We’re doing this after h

Joe Ceci warns gaping oil differential 'a crisis,' could spur economic downturn
Alberta’s latest economic update boasted of strong growth in the first half of 2018-19, but warned of a future slump due to the brutal oil price differential pummeling energy producers.
“The oil price differential is a crisis for Alberta and a crisis for Canada,” said Finance Minister Joe Ceci at a news conference Friday.
The second-quarter financials projected a $1.3-billion reduction in the provincial deficit, totalling $7.5 billion for 2018-19.

Oilers in 60: A penalty is a penalty is a penalty, is it not?
The suddenly surging Edmonton Oilers took on the visiting Los Angeles Kings Thursday at Rogers Place in a chippy game that bordered on silly at times.
Not to sound like a broken record, or to beat a dead horse, but what are NHL referees smoking these days?
Right off the bat, Drew Doughty was sent into full-on panic mode when McDavid got around him and raced toward the Kings net. Doughty, in no position to make a hockey play, just wrapped his arms around McDavid and took an obvious 2-minute penal -
Watch: Edmonton Oilers defeat the Kings 3-2
Edmonton Oilers head coach Ken Hitchcock gives a post-game summary after the Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings by a score of 3-2 in Edmonton on Thursday November 29, 2018.
It came down to Oscar Klembom’s power-play winner at 17:40, followed by a furious L.A. assault with the goalie out. “These wins can feel better than when you win 5-1,” said Klefbom. “It gives us a lot of confidence. We should be able to build off of this and focus on our next game here. We can play -

Friday's letters: Citizens given rude reception at City Hall
I witnessed extremely disrespectful behaviour by councillors Mike Nickel and Moe Banga during this week’s budget presentations towards two women giving very emotional presentations as part of Thrive Edmonton about the pain of caring for disabled kids while on fixed incomes.

Editorial: Conserving Bighorn Country a wise step
Just when it seemed Alberta’s NDP government has its hands full with contentious files, it drops another hornets’ nest into the mix — a $40-million plan to create eight new parks and recreation areas in Bighorn Country along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.
To see just how divisive it is for the province to propose protecting this 4,000-square kilometre parcel of spectacular terrain including mountains, foothills, grasslands, forests, lakes and rivers, read any -

Finance minister to give fiscal update as province tries to reduce gaping oil differential
Finance Minister Joe Ceci is planning to provide a fiscal update Friday on the heels of a provincial plan to buy rail cars in an attempt to reduce the brutal oil differential.
Earlier this week, Premier Rachel Notley delivered speeches in Toronto and Ottawa, where she said the oil price discount affecting energy producers is a crisis.
She said Alberta will buy trains to move an an additional 120,000 barrels per day out of the province, starting late 2019. The full complement of rail cars would s -

Thirty-six years.
If the Alberta Teachers’ Association is right, that’s how long it took them to kick out a teacher their investigation paints as a vindictive, disdainful bully.

David Staples: Liberals now on right legal path with TMX but have dug a deep hole
It’s no easy matter to find sanity in the turbulent world of Alberta oil and gas.

And Barack Obama, that vocal advocate for controlling climate change, is bragging that he’s responsible for the United States now being the world’s biggest producer of oil and gas.

Player grades: Klefbom the late hero again as Edmonton Oilers topple Kings
Kings 2, Oilers 3
For a few minutes there, it looked like the Edmonton Oilers might have an easy time of it. 10 minutes into the first period the Oilers led the L.A. Kings 2-0, and came close to making it 3-0 on a great Jujhar Khaira chance. Jonathan Quick had the answer that time, and the tide turned. Before the opening frame was over the Kings had one goal at even strength and another on a two-man advantage to tie the score at 2, and there it resolutely remained through the second and most of -
