Stampeders, Redblacks … Roughriders? Football fans from across the country lined Jasper Avenue Saturday as the joint Grey Cup-Santa Claus parade took over downtown.
The Ottawa Redblacks and Calgary Stampeders are set to play for Canadian football’s most vaunted trophy on Sunday. But the sea of jerseys and fan gear lining the parade route made it tough to guess which clubs are actually set to take the field.
Edmonton Eskimos fans were out in full force, as was the brighter green Sask

Driver killed, dragged 500 metres in crash near Green Court
RCMP are looking for the driver of a “large vehicle” after a man was ejected from a car and dragged down a highway for half a kilometre.
A man died Friday evening near Green Court after he lost control of his Kia, which crossed the median and rolled over on Highway 43. The man was ejected from the car, and police believe a larger vehicle dragged the man down the highway for about 500 metres, where he was found.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Leigh Drinkwater said emergency responders could not -
Edmonton Oilers buck conventional wisdom, recall Jesse Puljujarvi after brief stint in Bakersfield
Already in California for the big club’s three-game roadie, Edmonton Oilers brass made a stop in Ontario last night (the city, not the province) to assess the progress of their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Apparently they were impressed with at least one element of what they saw:

'Could be worse': Crowds brave the cold to join Santa and the Grey Cup parade
Crowds gathering along the Grey Cup parade route Saturday will enjoy a double-feature as Santa Claus is set to roll through downtown streets alongside Canadian football’s most vaunted trophy.
The parade sets off from Jasper Avenue and 108 Street and 11:30 a.m. and is expected to proceed east down Jasper, north on 101 Street, and then head west on 103 Avenue before wrapping up at about 1:30 p.m.
Postmedia sports columnist Terry Jones will marshal the CN Grey Cup Parade.

Youngsters Jesse Puljujarvi, Kailer Yamamoto & Tyler Benson lead the way in Bakersfield
For the first time in forever, the Edmonton Oilers farm system is stocked with young talent.
A group of 20-year-old forwards are playing key minutes. Numerous young players are thriving.
That group includes two 20-year-old first round draft picks, Kailer Yamamoto and Jesse Puljujarvi, and 20-year-old second round pick Tyler Benson, as well as attackers Cameron Hebig and Cooper Marody, who was returned to the Bake on Friday night, as well as promising d-men Ethan Bear, Caleb Jones and Will -
Edmonton weather: Throw on a layer (or two) under that jersey
A look at today’s Edmonton weather by Environment Canada.
It could be worse? Saturday morning temperatures at the Edmonton Blatchford station measure -7 C with 7 km/h winds, and a windchill of -10 C.
Compare that to back in 1996, when it was -24 C on this day, and there was 29 cm of snow on the ground. With an expected Saturday high of -3 C and just 30 per cent chance of flurries, it seems like one ought to take it and run. Take a hot chocolate break if you get too chilly while out at -
Saturday's letters: Uninformed column on climate change
Re. “What’s in a name?” Rex Murphy, Nov. 21
The recent article dissecting the language of climate change was uninformative and at times seemed to be denying climate change altogether.
The more accurate term would be climate change accelerated by humans. As many have pointed out, the climate does change even without the interference of people. The part I found most ridiculous was the mocking of the carbon tax because carbon dioxide is necessary for plants.

Opinion: It's time to ban mandatory high heels in Alberta eateries
As a restaurant owner, I’ve picked up a few wardrobe tips over the years.
Black clothes are great for hiding stains. Anything that gets in your way isn’t worth your time. But one thing towers above the rest.
Every worker should be free to ditch their high heels.
My feet are object lessons. They are shaped like the shoes I threw away nearly a decade ago. Working for a restaurant chain compressed my feet into diamonds. My doctor says I’ll need surgery to undo the damage.

Player grades: Edmonton can't hang on as Ducks' uncanny 6-on-5 mastery of Oilers continues
Oilers 1, Ducks 2 (OT)
I have been watchiung hockey for 55 years and I have never seen one team dominate another with the goalie pulled the way the Anaheim Ducks currently own the Edmonton Oilers.
Consider: trailing 3-0 in Game 5 of their 2017 Pacific Division Final, the Ducks pulled their goalie and scored not one, not two, but three times to tie the game, then went on to win it in double overtime. Twice in the 2017-18 season Edmonton led late in the third period only to see the Ducks storm bac -
Getting to the Grey Cup: Manoeuvring your way around city streets
With a number of road closures and alternate bus routes, fans attending Sunday’s Grey Cup at Commonwealth Stadium will need a solid game plan of their own to get to and from the big game.
