This week in Alberta politics saw an historic agreement between the government and Lubicon Lake First Nation, ending decades of legal wrangling and protests.Join Press Gallery host Emma Graney with guests Elise Stolte, Keith Gerein and Dave Breaknridge to talk about that deal and what it means for the community.
The team also takes on PACs (political action committees or, in the dry tone of Elections Alberta, third-party advertisers), a wrap over the knuckles from the Ethics Commissioner and thi

NDP to dig into AISH, health care, energy issues for policy book
Expanding medicare, increasing seniors and disability benefits, modernizing the curriculum, fighting racism and improving rural internet will all be visited by the NDP at its convention this weekend.

Elise Stolte: Edmonton needs to check its blind spot on self-driving technology

Coun. Andrew Knack thinks he has. He owns a 2011 Kia Soul. Barring a collision, he’s is betting a fleet of self-driving cars will make private cars unnecessary before he needs a new one.

Friday's letters: Narcotics officer complicit for pot busts?
It is not my intention to create a new #MeToo movement, but 48 years ago I was a Canadian police narcotics officer. During the next seven or so years I was responsible for the arrest, charging, conviction and the life-lasting criminal records of a small but significant group of my neighbours, friends and citizens.
I created hardships for those who created hardships for themselves; I was duty-bound.

Editorial: Justice for the Lubicon
Long before movements such as Idle No More, the Dakota pipeline protest and the Oka Crisis, a small northern Alberta Cree band came to symbolize the struggle for Indigenous rights and self-determination.
The Lubicon dispute has endured for 85 years — so long that many of the original members who started the land claim in 1933 died before seeing a landmark $121-million deal with the federal and provincial governments.
The protracted, often bitter, dispute also outlasted other figures who pl -

Player grades: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins leads the charge as Edmonton Oilers take down Stanley Cup champs
Capitals 1, Oilers 4
If the Edmonton Oilers were going to upend the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals on Thursday night they were going to need a complete team effort. And that’s exactly what they got.
The hometown team scored once on the powerplay, once on the penalty kill, once at even strength, and once into the empty net. Better still, they held the potent Caps to just a single tally in all situations.
The game turned on the one and only Caps powerplay midway through the second, -

Edmonton Oilers vs Washington Capitals – Coach McLellan
Back in the days before Wayne Gretzky and the gang started winning Stanley Cups, they played what they themselves identified as credibility games.
They were games against either the New York Islanders or Montreal Canadiens, the Stanley Cup teams of that era, and came along every six weeks or so.
This year, Connor McDavid and the new era Edmonton Oilers faced four consecutive credibility games at home to start the season, including visits by the Stanley Cup champions of the last three seasons.
