  • The last day of summer in Edmonton

Although today is the official last day of summer in Edmonton, snow is the topic of the weather conversation.
It’s like someone shook the celestial snow globe overnight and the city woke to a blanket of wet snow.
The white stuff is forecast to fall through the weekend, which puts many outdoor events in doubt. The outlook for the start of next week is warmer, but the sun stays away until the end of next week.
  • Ty Rattie impresses during pre-season game against the Winnipeg Jets

Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan talks about Ty Rattie’s pre-season game against the Winnipeg Jets.
The Oilers are now 3-0 in pre-season but, unfortunately, there are no points given out in September after wins over Calgary, Vancouver and now the Winnipeg Jets.
In this one, the Oilers’ No. 1 line of McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ty Rattie had nine points. McDavid juked past Jake Trouba and scored the game’s best goal on Eric Comrie and fed Nugent-Hopkins for two and Rattie fo

  • 5 points on Edmonton's stomping of Winnipeg Jets semi-AHL squad

It’s likely wise not to make too much of Edmonton’s 7-3 stomping of the Winnipeg Jets, as the Jets sat out almost all their top players and essentially went with a line-up featuring the bottom half of their NHL players and the top half of their AHL players.
That said, there were a few things to note both good and bad with the Oilers play. Here are five things that caught my attention.
Number One: Of course, McDavid line was tremendous, with RNH and McDavid looking like they were dest

Oh look, someone shook the snow globe again. I know we all like to give weather forecasters grief of “never getting it right” but let’s give credit where credit is due — we all knew this was coming. We can solace in the fact it won’t last long. Snow is in the forecast until noon to

  • Friday's letters: RCMP's response to mishandled case falls short

Re. “RCMP probe into slaying found to be ‘deficient,'” Sept. 20
After four years — four years — the RCMP is committed to “immediately implementing recommendations.”
Whoopee! I have to say, this seems an empty response. What about some apologies to the Tuccaro family? “We’re sorry we made such a mess of the inquiry,” or “We’re sorry we didn’t train our officers well enough,” or “We’re sorry variou
  • Editorial: Smoking bylaw goes too far

When the Trudeau government decided that recreational cannabis would become legal across Canada on Oct. 17, who could have foreseen that  tobacco smokers in Edmonton would lose a little of their freedom just as pot users gained more of it?
A new more restrictive smoking bylaw passed Tuesday is just another unintended consequence of the federal action to legalize marijuana, which has spawned a growing number of them.
