Two people attacked with axes in the far north of the Northwest Territories over the weekend have been flown to Edmonton for treatment, Mounties said Monday.
Officers arrived at a home in the tiny town of Fort Good Hope at 11:55 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of an assault outside of a residence.
An injured man and a woman were transported to a medical clinic before being transported by air about 800 kilometres south to Yellowknife and then onto Edmonton.

Former MLA loses appeal against Alberta elections boss over campaign sign squabble
The battle between a former Wildrose MLA and the province’s top elections official is over for now after Alberta’s Court of Appeal dismissed a case that began over the font size on election lawn signs.
Joe Anglin, former MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre, challenged a $250 penalty imposed by chief electoral officer Glen Resler related to the small font on his campaign signs during the 2015 election in which he was running as an independent candidate.
Anglin never disputed th -

Alberta school isolation room rules due 'within weeks'
Alberta schools can expect to see new binding guidelines on the use of isolation rooms in a matter of weeks.
The change comes on the heels of publicity around a lawsuit filed in the Court of Queen’s Bench by a Sherwood Park family. They allege their 12-year-old son with autism was locked, naked, in a Clover Bar School isolation room, and are suing the teacher, the principal, the school board and the Alberta government.
Isolation room guidelines already exist in Alberta, but Education -
'Enjoy the fall colours': Weather Network forecasts mild fall for Alberta
Early snow may have ruined the start September for many Edmontonians, but according to the Weather Network things should return to normal for the rest of the autumn season.
“Over the last 10 days it seems like we’ve plummeted into an early winter — that won’t last. We’re going to snap out of it and get some milder weather especially through October,” The Weather Network’s chief meteorologist, Chris Scott, said as the network released its fall forecast Mo -
Household cleaners can cause obesity in young children: U of A study
Frequently using disinfectant to keep homes clean is being linked to weight gain in children, warns a University of Alberta study.
“We found that infants living in households where disinfectants were used at least weekly were twice as likely to have higher levels of the bacteria called Lachnospiraceae at three to four months of age,” said Anita Kozyrskyj, a U of A pediatrics professor and lead on the investigation into how alteration of infant gut microbiome impact health.

Aggressive hockey is back in town as the Edmonton Oilers introduce high pressure tactics
Preseason game preview #1: Oilers vs Flames
Strudwick: “A much more aggressive style of forechecking … that the players will want to play. You want to play on your toes.”
This in from former Edmonton Oilers player Jason Strudwick, now a commentator on TSN 1260 radio, his take on new strategies of the Edmonton Oilers coaching staff based on watching the team practice: “A scrimmage, I don’t get a lot out of those, but I do want to see a practice, so you can get to se -
Matthew Good, the Trews and Crystal — Cirque de Soleil on ice — coming soon
With just his acoustic guitar and a deep catalogue of thoughtful Can-con classics, Matthew Good will be at Starlite room March 20 next year, part of a 35-date cross-country tour.
The last time he came through in this pared down version (at the same venue, actually), was 2007 and it was a hell of a show in support of Hospital Music — sort of his version of Alice Cooper’s From the Inside — full of pathos and intensity. Few can stretch a note over a backyard party like this g -

Police only reported the fatality Monday, a month after the woman died.

Edmonton weather: So that was a thing
A look at today’s Edmonton weather by Environment Canada.
Monday morning temperatures at the Edmonton Blatchford station measure 1.6 C with 6 km/h winds out of the north, northwest.

Organizations walk away from costly operating fees at former MacEwan University West campus
Non-profit arts organizations who saw promise in a new community space are on the outside looking in after building fees proved unexpectedly too high.
The former MacEwan University West campus, deemed the Orange Hub after the city took the reins last September, is now open as a community building for non-profit arts and recreation groups to run programming.
But the building operating costs could be limiting access to some groups the city is hoping to attract, prompting city council to request a -
Gold Bar residents fear Epcor expansion plans larger than first revealed
A plan to cut down trees to make room for an Epcor parking lot in Gold Bar Park has ignited a firestorm of resistance.
Area residents are worried Epcor’s plan is just the beginning of a much larger expansion project for its Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Not only are they scared an internal decision to reroute a major sewage trunk line from southeast Edmonton to the river valley plant will increase volume, they fear a seemingly innocuous rezoning request tucked alongside the par -

“I think it’s been really great for the city. It’s just one of those attractions that people have really looked forward to,& -
'It has been a closeted subject': Junior football players take training to prevent violence against women
The Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters is hoping sports teams will follow the lead of a local junior football club which trained young male athletes to prevent violence against women, emphasizing the importance of calling out sexist remarks in the locker room.
“These are real male leaders in our community that are looking beyond the football field to see what they can do to make the world safer for women and girls,” said executive director Jan Reimer in an interview Sunday.

Six-day trek through Tanzania raises money for international development projects
An Edmonton woman who took part in a 100-kilometre trek across Tanzania to raise money for development projects says one memorable moment included watching three giraffes bolt through a village.

As Josh Morrissey signs for $3.15 million, Darnell Nurse camp values him at more than $4 million per, TSN's Nielson says
This in from TSN’s Dustin Nielson, a reported “valuation” of Darnell Nurse from his camp: “From multiple sources now I’ve heard the Nurse camp is pegging his value just above $4,000,000..I’m not saying he’s asking for that or firm on that number but they are valuing him in that range, which I don’t think is that unrealistic.”
Neilson added: “Dreger told us he’d be surprised if he gets more than $3,000,000 but I don’t see how
