• Motorcyclist dies following crash at Castrol Raceway

    A 29-year-old Calgary man has died after a crash during a race at the Castrol Raceway near Edmonton, an RCMP spokesman said.
    At around 12:40 p.m. Sunday, emergency medical services personnel took a critically injured man from the Nisku-area racetrack to hospital, said Alberta Health Services’ Amy Crofts on Monday.
    RCMP were called to the scene at around 2:30 p.m., Cpl. Ron Bumbry said. The man died from his injuries in hospital and an autopsy is pending, he said.

    An eight-year-old boy died while canoeing on Lac La Biche Saturday after family lost sight of the vessel.
    The youngster was paddling with a 13-year-old at Poplar Point, on the north shore of the lake, when winds picked up and a storm moved in, causing family and friends to lose sight of the canoe, Mounties said Sunday.
