  • There are lots of good reasons to be excited about this edition of the Edmonton Oilers: 9 Things

    I get it.
Given the expectations that most of us entered 2017-18 with, the result was bound to disappoint. It should disappoint. And I fully expected the harsh reaction from the fan base.
That is has dragged on so, however, has been a bit hard to listen to. I know a fair chunk of that is due to the long stretch of winless-ness this franchise and its fans have had to endure over the past 12 years.
But when I (personally) sign up to be a fan I consider it to be a long-term relationship. Just the o
  • Rejected Grandin tower pitch heading back to council with 'true family units'

The first tower pitch council turned down in eight years is back, now with three floors of family-sized units near Grandin School and a thin park between it and nearby homes.
Council turned down a 28-storey tower proposal from Westrich Pacific in June 2017, saying the re-zoning request would allow a structure too large for the small two-lot site and unfairly cut off the sky for the four-storey apartment neighbours to the south.
But Westrich Pacific is hoping a series of changes will shift opinio

  • University students settle into homes away from home

Kira Diebert says her mother cried when she left home.
“But I’ll go back and visit soon,” she promises from the ground floor common area of her new home at the University of Alberta. The 17-year-old engineering student is among the first 461 residents to occupy the new Thelma Charifoux Hall, named in honour of the Métis senator.
Like most of the residents, it will be the first time Diebert has lived away from home, just the idea of laundry making her nervous. B
