    Low-fare alternative Flair Airlines had a high-flying summer, according to a company news release.
    The privately-owned airline reportedly doubled its capacity in June, expanding its network to 10 cities including Victoria and Halifax. The flights themselves reportedly surpassed passenger projections.

    Just two years after opening its doors, the Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Edmonton has failed an Alberta Health Services health inspection after traces of pigeon feces were discovered by inspectors.
    AHS inspected the 255-room hotel, at 9576 Jasper Ave, on Aug. 24.
    A number of items were flagged by inspectors, including nine rooftop HVAC units that were drawing fresh air from a semi-enclosed space that was heavily contaminated with pigeon feces and pigeons.

  • Semi, pickup truck on fire after serious crash north of Rimbey

    A serious collision between a pickup truck and a semi truck has closed part of Highway 20 approximately 70 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
    Rimbey RCMP were called at 12:09 p.m. to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 20, north of Township Road 442. According to the police news release, the vehicles were reported as on fire.

  • Homicide detectives investigate suspicious death in Rundle Heights

    Police are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a man was found outside a Rundle Heights townhouse complex in northeast Edmonton Monday morning.
    Officers were called about a disturbance complaint at around 1:50 a.m. in the area of 32 Street and 116A Avenue. Upon arrival police found a man lying on the grass. He died at the scene.
