• Tractor driver killed in northern Alberta crash

    A 74-year-old man was killed Tuesday when the tractor he was driving was struck by a semi trailer near the town of Spirit River in northern Alberta.
    The crash was one of two serious collisions that Spirit River RCMP attended to within an hour.
    The first crash at 3:43 p.m. on Highway 2 occurred when a pick-up truck travelling west on Township Road 763 collided with an unloaded semi trailer.

    Five Alberta companies have jointly filed court papers against the government, criticizing its role in the sale of Carillion Canada’s highway maintenance contracts to a B.C. firm.

    A water main break and power outage in downtown Edmonton Wednesday morning triggered a cluster of evacuations, traffic snarls and affected close to 500 Epcor customers, say officials.
    Epcor spokesman Tim LeRiche said the break was reported shortly after 9 a.m., south of Jasper Avenue at 108 Street.
    LeRiche said it is too early to confirm if the two events are connected.

    Three Canada-wide arrest warrants have been issued for an Edmonton man convicted of unlawful confinement and sexual assault following a 2016 traffic collision.
    Edmonton city police officers arrested 35-year-old Sinan Hadi on Sept. 25, 2016, a day after the collision. Police said Hadi convinced the victim to get into his vehicle after the crash. He then drove her to multiple locations before sexually assaulting her near 90 Avenue and 170 Street.

    A segment of Jasper Avenue was flooded Wednesday morning in the area of 108 and 109 Streets after an apparent water main break.
    EPCOR crews are on scene, spokesman Tim LeRiche said. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
    Vehicles could be seen driving through several inches of standing water.
    Lenore Dafoe and Linda Bailey were among those evacuated from office buildings in the area.

    Grande Prairie, Alta. — One man was killed in small plane crash in northwest Alberta Tuesday afternoon.
    The 43-year-old pilot was pronounced dead by attending medical services, said an RCMP news release.
